He's good there though.
Doesn't matter if he is. Berlusconi said only 3 days ago that Pato being played wide was the main reason for his big disagreements with Leonardo and, indirectly, the reason why Leonardo left Milan.

Berlu will never change. He was interfering in what isn't his business with every single coach after Capello. Even a serious coach like Ancelotti had to change the formation just for Berlu. If Allegri wants to keep his job, sadly, he will have to find a different position for Pato.

They are only interesting once it is close to the start of the season, when teams are working on tactics.

Watching teams doing fitness training is dull.

Yes, but that is only because Okada didnt have faith in Okazaki, and saw Morimoto as too green.

Japan basically played:

Abe (DM)

Hasebe (CM) - Endo (CM)

Matsui (RM) - Okubo (AM/F)

Honda (AM/F)

His most effective position is behind a centre forward where he makes the most of his final pass, vision and long range shot, but he can play in several positions across the midfield also.

I think thats way too attacking, thats 4 "strikers" who won't really help out in defensive duties. I am guessing that Honda will play upfront like he did with Japan.
And if Pirlo is one of the midfielders, then you get another guy who doesn't help defensively.

The Dutch were playing something similar, but Kuyt was doing more work than Dinho does and Pirlo's job in Milan was done by van Bommel/ de Yong in Holland.

Or one could use Spain as a comparison, but you can't compare the workrate of Xabi with Pirlo, and the Spaniards play defense with strong possession football, which Milan can't do. Also, Spanish defense is younger and better than Milan's defense. As is the goalkeeper.

It would still be interesting to see how will this work in serie A. That's a huge potential in attack and even if this team might be destroyed by Inter, overall they might collect enough points against the smaller teams to win the scudetto.
