That is not how I understand it, and you can score with the shoulder.

Osman once told me (and then i checked by myself and saw that it was true) that when players are on line and it's close to impossible to see without replays if it was offside or not, then the refs give advantage to the team that attacks. The linesman needs to be sure that the player is offside in order to raise the flag.
We were talking about Kaka's offside against Inter when Ronaldinho scored. Kaka was almost on line, he was slightly offside, but the ref gave advantage and Milan scored.
That's probably the only objection i have towards the linesman for Fiorentina's goal against us or Hamsik's goal against Milan.
I know that things happen too fast and it might have seemed to them that Gila and Hamsik were really offside, but it was a really close call and if the linesman is supposed to give advantage to the attacking team, then he should have done it in both cases.
If the linesmen were sure that Gila and Hamsik were offside (and they should be if they call it offside) then they were clearly wrong.
