Galliani hails Milan's focus
Thursday 30 October, 2008
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani believes the Rossoneri have the concentration to win the Scudetto.
Carlo Ancelotti's side beat Siena 2-1 last night to move into third spot and overtake Inter, who drew 0-0 at Fiorentina.
“I am not sure that it has been three years,” said Galliani, referring to the last time Milan were ahead of Inter in Serie A. “It ought to be from 2006 but let's leave it be…”
Rather than get carried away, Silvio Berlusconi's right-hand man actually agreed with Nerazzurri boss Jose Mourinho who recently said that there are no prizes for being top in autumn.
“Mourinho is right,” added Galliani, speaking at the launch of a new membership card for fans. “It doesn't count where you are now, but where you are in May. We have to be calm because we are Milan and it shouldn't surprise us to find ourselves in the upper echelons of the table.”
Galliani then turned to the club's objectives this season and tacitly admitted that Milan had neglected the League for too long. They have not won it since 2004.
“We gave the club and the players a very clear priority in June. Milan has to play and fight to win the title. But the importance is to fight until the end and to keep a different condition in the championship with respect to last year.”
“The objective is the League and the players are to be bombarded by this every day. The team now has a ferocious concentration to reach the objective.”
Galliani also revealed that David Beckham's loan move from LA Galaxy to Milan is coming along nicely.
“Initially it seemed that he would arrive next week, instead Beckham's lawyers will be here today and we will begin the deal. I don't know if it will be concluded positively or not, but I hope and believe so.”
