DonnaMolinaro, please make an introduction thread in the hangout section.

More than Corvino, it's Marino whom I admire. His transfers have really been pinpoint (E. Lavezzi, M. Hamsik, G. Denis, C. Maggio) for Napoli, as well as with Udinese (Iaquinta, De Sanctis, Di Natale,...). IMO, this guy would have been the perfect DS after the relegation, but it would never happen....

Other news: a Camorra family tried to buy Lazio...

You Corvino lovers, sure Corvino is that great? Spent the most of any serie A team and after that sells his best player?
I made the same point yesterday.
It's reported that Roma offered 20m eur (just as i thought).
If Fiorentina sell Mutu for 20m eur they will still be 19.2m eur in minus and yet their team won't be any stronger than last year (imo, it's even weaker).
They will be without 3 very influental players in defense, midfield, attack (Ujfalusi, Liverani, Mutu) and they will have Comotto, Felipe Melo and Gilardino in their spots.
Hardly an improvement.

Only the LB position is stronger (arguably, though) because now they will have Vargas instead of Pasqual.

well for someone whos been pointing out the obvioust complications of wages you have overlooked here; liverani isnt getting younger and viola will find it real hard to keep mutu when roma is knocking on the door.
Liverani is the same age as Camoranesi or Seedorf and he offers quality. They lost him as a free agent. Imo, it would have been much smarter if they offered him a 1 year contract and kept him. There will certainly be times in serie A and CL when they'll need his playmaking skills.
About Mutu, i agree. Roma are offering two times more than what he earns in Firenze and it's hard to keep him.

But the bottom line is that Fiorentina won't be paying less money on wages (they'll be paying more than last year actually), they bought for 20m more than what they sold (in case they sell Mutu) and yet their team is, imo, weaker than last year's team.

That's why both me and Dom wonder what is it that Corvino did great this summer so we long for him and want our team to have the same mercato as Fiorentina ?

Liverani will be a massive loss to Fiorentina...I was baffled that they chose to let him go
Ujfalusi too....But there are some logic in selling mutu now, mutu is 29 and this is the best time to get some $$ out of selling him plus they've allready got he's replacement in jovetic. The problem is, jovetic is too young and mutu is miles ahead of him right now plus if they sell mutu now they'll lose 3 of their most experience players (mutu, liverani and ujfalusi) for next season and when they play in europe that would be a massive lose for them.

I think they believe that its almost impossible for them to qualify for the CL next season "09-10 season" so they're atleast selling Mutu now and getting some cash rather then keeping him and getting stuck with all those attackers that they're allready have.

that makes no sense...do they only want to be in the CL for 1 season? they gotta hope for a longish run in the CL and need to support players like Mutu by adding quality around him, not getting rid of them when they are about to hit the big time!

Incredible. Nesta complains about a back pain and Milan is ready to return to the transfer market. Andrade lacks a functional knee joint and Juventus says that their transfer market is closed.

And do you think Milan is going to sign someone really good and expensive? I don't think so. They'll probably sign Ferrari or another cheap/free player (like we did). People act like Milan owns the Mercato.

Mark, I didn't say it was going to be someone expensive. It's someone and it's probably somebody who's quality. The people at Milan are taking the initiative to strengthen the defensive department with the possibility of an injury, meanwhile the individuals at Juventus seem to be satisfied with mediocrity and the lack of depth in defence brought on by these unfortunate sequence of events.

I'd be happy if they had kept Stendardo around, but he was way too expensive.

But I think that is exactly what Juventus did. They brought 2 defenders (Mellberg + Knezevic) because of the possibility that Andrade will get injured. You could argue that Mellberg is a quality defendr, we will see.

Whether they will be quality replacements and will it be enough defensive cover for the season remains to be witnessed.

Milan have Nesta, Bonera, Kaladze, Maldinosaurus as central defenders. Not much of a difference between us. Plus neither of them are world beaters, except Nesta (who I believe will feel the consequences of his constant injuries), Kaladze is downfalling, Maldini can't play much and Bonera is average. Simic will be sold. Digao is crap.

I actually think Milan are in a similar situation to us. They have the same amount of central defenders (we also have Grygera who can fill in there) as we do and not much of a quality there.

Defense was one of the weakest part of Milan's team last sason and they only brought Zambrotta who was unrecognisable the last 2 seasons, although I believe he will be back to his good performances soon. Milan haven't upgraded their defense at all. Remember that we also brought De Ceglie.
