Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 30

Team of the week (4-3-3):

Julio Cesar (Inter): Juventus would have won with a bigger margin if it wasn't for the Brazilian goalkeeper, who made some incredible saves from Del Piero.

Paolo Cannavaro (Napoli): A leader in defence as he did all he could to stop the Reggina attacks. Without him Napoli would probably have lost.

Max Tonetto (Roma): Great defensively and fantastic when going forward, where he caused havoc in the Empoli defence and also scored the first goal of the game.

Christian Panucci (Roma): Was not at his best in the first half, but then made up for it with a brilliant second period in which he even scored the winning goal.

Tomas Ujfalusi (Fiorentina): Prevented Pandev from causing any damage, in particular in the 90th minute when the Biancocelesti could have equalized.

Mauro Camoranesi
(Juventus): Good game which was enriched by his (offside) goal which paved the way for the Bianconeri's win.

Pasquale Foggia (Cagliari): Took part in all of the Rossoblu's attacks, so it is no surprise to find his name in the scorer's list at the end of the game.

Sebastian Giovinco (Empoli): He tormented the Roma defence with his class, scoring a goal and hitting the post in a game where he once again proved his enormous talent.

Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus): Dribblings, assists and shots on goals. Pinturicchio only lacked the goal in order to have a perfect game.

Amauri (Palermo): A brace in a game which the Brazilian was one of the few Palermo player who were really trying hard to save Guidolin's place on the bench.

Massimo Maccarone (Siena): Thanks to his determination and brace, he helped the Tuscan side win three precious points in the race for survival.

HONOURABLE MENTION

Zeljko Kalac (Milan)
Nicola Legrottaglie (Juventus)
Maicon (Inter)
Maniche (Inter)
Omar Milanetto (Genoa)
Alexandre Pato (Milan)
Francesco Totti (Roma)

Milan Set For Montolivo-Gila Swap?

AC Milan could be set to swap Alberto Gilardino for Fiorentina’s Riccardo Montolivo, according to sources in Italy.

Gilardino is virtually certain to leave Milan in the summer, following a third hugely disappointing season at San Siro.

The Rossoneri will have four fit and healthy strikers in their first team squad next campaign. These will be Alexandre Pato, Filippo Inzaghi, Alberto Paloschi, as well as one top-class name, possibly Dimitar Berbatov, who will be signed.

Alberto Gilardino will be sold, and his most likely destination is Fiorentina. Viola boss Cesare Prandelli is a big admirer of Gila, having worked with him successfully in the past at Parma.

Milan are set to propose a part-exchange deal which will see young midfielder Riccardo Montolivo go the other way.

The 23-year-old is regarded as one of Italy’s most promising young players, and has an uncanny likeness to Andrea Pirlo on the field play.

However this season Montolivo has been a terrible disappointment, leading some figures in the game to question whether he will go on to fulfill his early promise.

Prandelli is keen to let the ex-Atalanta man go, while Milan feel they can repeat what they did when they signed a young and underachieving Pirlo from Inter several years ago.

Matrix Admits Mancini Fight, Ibra Fall-Out
Marco Materazzi had admitted that he did fall-out with Inter team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but says things have been cleared up now. Meanwhile he also sensationally reveals that fists have been used in the past between him and Roberto Mancini.

The Inter dressing room has been torn apart in recent weeks, with never-ending stories of unrest within the camp.

Following the Champions League last 16 first leg defeat at Liverpool last month, Ibrahimovic appeared to blame Materazzi for the loss when asked by a journalist what had happened.

“Why don’t you go and ask Materazzi?” blasted the Swede.

Materazzi did not take kindly to this remark, and the Italian media soon declared that the pair had fallen out, and were no longer on speaking terms.

The Matrix has now finally revealed that this was in fact true, however he did stress that everything had now been cleared up, and that there are no longer any problems.

"We've cleared things up,” said Materazzi.

“There may be a moment of tension, there must be, for strength, when face to face. About me you can write books and books of insults, but I am not, nor have been, an ambiguous type, an elusive person.

"I like looking people in the eye.”

Materazzi also went on to sensationally reveal that in the past he has fought with Coach Roberto Mancini, and says that there have been times when even fists were used.

"With Roberto Mancini, in the past, there was even use of hands, but if we are both still here, it means that we have sheaved our daggers."

Spotlight: Alex the Great

The winners…
Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus)
On the evening that he was again rejected by Italy boss Roberto Donadoni, Alessandro Del Piero underlined his intention to be a part of Euro 2008. He may have wasted some good chances to score against Inter and been a little too egotistical at times, but an old face arguably marked a new era for the Bianconeri at San Siro on Saturday night.

they will choke, they arfe choking, its just that Roma arent taking full advantage of it.
Absolutely.
If it was Juventus or Milan of the previous years , Inter would have lost the scudetto, 100% guaranteed.
But Roma are so inconsistent that i really think they'll choke harder than Inter. Plus they have the CL and all.

The original source is Il Quotidiano, which isn't even a sports newspaper. And from the article you can see by yourself that it's just a speculation, Corriere dello sport style speculation, without a single quote.

In other news, Gazzetta informs Serginho is to renew until 2009 and that Cafu's renewal is still being decided but the right back will most probably also sign a new contract with Milan.
:lol2:

They`ve mentioned this swap few times already.
I know, but they all took it from il Quotidiano, which is almost the same as Beogradska "Politika" being the first one speculating about a possible swap between a Zvezda and Vojvodina player.

Gila-Frey swap has been mentioned a lot of times already, but Il Quotidiano came with a whole new story about a Gila-Montolivo swap.
And they rate Gila at 18 m euro, which is another reason not to trust them.
