Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 21

Team of the week (4-3-3):

Julio Cesar (Inter): Inter have to thank him more than any other player for the three points as he saved a penalty and also made some very important stops throughout the encounter.

Alessandro Nesta (Milan): A commanding display from Nesta, who was a one-man show at times at the back for Milan.

Federico Balzaretti (Palermo): Good debut for the former Fiorentina and Juventus player as he proved that he could be important for the Rosanero in the second half of the season.

Matteo Contini (Napoli): Excellent performance in defence as he thwarted Quagliarella, which is not an easy feat these days.

Abdoulay Konko (Genoa): Big teams are already lining up to sign him this summer, and a performance like the one he had on Sunday will surely increase his price tag.

Alessandro Rosina (Torino): The man behind the Granata’s attacks as he orchestrated the midfield and created all the moves for his team-mates.

Andrea Parola (Cagliari): Quantity and quality against Juventus which in the end proved fundamental for his side to take back home a positive and morale boosting result.

Paolo De Ceglie (Siena): A fighter who runs all over the pitch in order to help his team. One of the best players on the field against Roma. :weee:

Alexandre Pato (Milan): Played for 15 minutes, but in those 15 minutes he did more than Gialrdino and Pazzini did throughout the entire game for their respective teams. Over rated? Definitely not. Milan will be praying his injury is not too serious.

Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli): Scored two goals and was also in the action that allowed the Partenopei to open the scoring. Not Maradona, but not a bad player at all.

Marco Borriello (Genoa): He deservedly won a call-up for the Azzurri’s squad with another high quality performance and another goal.

Honourable Mention

Zeljko Kalac (Milan)
Andrea Raggi (Empoli)
Alessandro Gamberini (Fiorentina)
Andrea Cossu (Cagliari)
Mariano Izco (Catania)
Fabrizio Miccoli (Palermo)
Sergio Floccari (Atalanta)

Molinaro is sketchy. He has been Boumsong bad on defense at times when he's completely lapsed in coverage, but he's improved his defensive game a little -- and occasionally quite a bit, IMO. Offensively he's also occasionally warm but mostly cold. I think Molinaro is benefitting from the few who also gave Criscito more credit than he deserved: it's that young-guy-with-potential, let-him-prove-himself thing.

I would take Balza in a heartbeat over Molinaro. At least in terms of reliability. You just don't know what you're going to get from Molinaro from one match to the next. But if we're loaning out the likes of De Ceglie for experience, I'm surprised Molinaro wasn't included in that equation.

Title chasers Roma and Juventus both lost hope in their quest to overhaul Inter Milan in the Serie A race as they dropped points against supposedly weaker opposition on Sunday.

According to AFP, Roma, who had won their previous four games to cut Inter’s lead to five points before the start of play, suffered a dreadful 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Siena to allow Inter, who beat Empoli 1-0, to stretch the gap at the top to eight points.

Juventus lost further ground as well as they were held to a third draw in a row, 1-1 at home to rock-bottom Cagliari, to see their gap open up to 12 points.

Juve are now more concerned by the teams creeping up behind them rather than catching those ahead.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti refused to throw in the towel but lamented the loss of important points.

Roma’s record this season has been impressive, though, picking up 45 points from 21 matches and losing just twice in that period--their previous defeat being a 4-2 reverse at home to Inter.

Juve coach Caludio Ranieri gave a sober assessment of his team’s title hopes, admitting they were not in the same league as the two sides above them.
“Inter and Roma are the best teams. The red and yellows (Roma) have only lost one match on a bad day,“ said Ranieri. “We’re doing what we can.“

No, my dear...

He scored 23 goals in Serie A.

Alright you want only serie A:

2668 minutes were played in 2004/2005 season by him to score 16 goals. That means a goal each 166 minutes.

2389 minutes were played in 2005/2006 season by him to score 7 goals. That means a goal each 341 minutes.:lol2:

While Del Piero played in 2004/2005 season 1942 minutes to score 14 goals. That means a goal each 138 minutes.

And played in 2005/2006 season 1733 minutes to score 12 goals. That means a goal each 144 minutes.

Now, fuck off and let's see the dust resulting from your jogging.
I :heart2: you.

Find it hilarious the way that that guy keeps saying that Molinaro is better than Balzaretti. Let him, its fun to have someone who actually likes Molinaro more than just "Do well for my team".

As a left-back.

Siena: Manninger; Rossettini, Loria, Portanova, De Ceglie; Jarolim, Vergassola, Codrea; Kharja (Coppola 63); Frick (Alberto 91), Maccarone (Rigano' 81)
Thanks, that's what I thought. Anyway, that team of the week has him as a left mid and Rosina as a right mid. :howler:

Another De Ceglie show against Milan? :xfinger:

i would take balza in a heart beat and its one of our biggest mistakes as he also plays on the right.

anyway thats long gone, and credit to molinaro i think he improved his defensive game a lot since the beginning of the season. He knows how to use his speed more effectively and his cross covering was great over the last few games. He upstaged the other defenders in the livorno game and kept his defensive form after that.

I dont think hes a lost cause yet.

I think you're being extremley pessimistic here. The team's performances off late hardly make a person optimistic, but still. But like i said,i dont expect our brilliance ot take us into next year's CL.I expect a major screwup from Fiorentina to take us there. If we get the 3 points against Udinese,id become even more confident.
