Giovinco After Azzurri Call-Up

Empoli midfielder Sebastian Giovinco has earned himself the title of most promising Italian prospect this season thanks to some very convincing performances for his side.

Giovinco is preparing himself for next season when he will join Juventus once his loan contract at Empoli comes to an end.

However, the young starlet wants to help the Tuscan side achieve survival before parting ways with his team and aiming for important targets with the Bianconeri and even the Italian national team.

"I'm working better in this period," declared the talented player during the inauguration of the 'Torneo di Viareggio'. "I'm working to become important.

"I managed to emerge from the youth level, now I hope to go to a big team," he continued, referring to Juventus.

"I would like one day to also wear the Azzurri's shirt. Empoli have proven to know how to handle young players and I'm now ready to always give something more for this team," concluded Giovinco.

Palermo v Roma ball boy Tuesday 29 January, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini is launching an appeal against the Roma goal that decided the weekend’s clash at the Stadio Olimpico.

With the game poised at 0-0, the hosts benefited from a quick-witted ball boy who spotted the ball immediately to allow Rodrigo Taddei to take a corner kick before Palermo were ready.

Amantino Mancini headed home what proved to be the only goal of the game while the Rosanero were still trying to adjust after the dismissal of Leandro Rinaudo and reshuffle the defence.

“I looked back over the rules and they state that the ball boy must return the ball to the player,” Zamparini explained on Europa 7.

As the ball boy put the ball on the trident himself, the goal could technically have been disallowed.

Palermo have sent a fax to the Lega Calcio demanding that the game be declared void and asking for the fixture to be replayed or for the Sicilians to be given a 3-0 win.

There is no precedent for such action in the history of Italian football and it remains to be seen whether further action will be taken, but the episode looks set to stir controversy for weeks to come.

Can't they just watch EPL matches or CL matches ? Does Drogba needs to be scouted ?

Milan are worse than Secco

Young players at his age (30) most be carefuly scouted and watched to see if they are mature enough to wear the Milan jeresy.

Napoli buy up Brescia duo Tuesday 29 January, 2008

Napoli have reinforced their squad with Brescia’s Fabiano Santacroce and Argentine goalkeeper Nicolas Navarro.

The Azzurri are struggling in Serie A this month and have picked up just one point from their last three games.

Defender Santacroce becomes their third January signing of 2008. He is an Under-21 Italian international despite being born in Brazil and put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old could make his debut on Saturday evening against Udinese at the Stadio San Paolo.

Santacroce is the third player to come from Brescia in this campaign, following Marek Hamsik and Daniele Mannini, while Roberto De Zerbi has gone to the Serie B outfit on loan.

The total cost of all three players comes to approximately £12m, as both Santacroce and the impressive midfielder Hamsik cost just under £4m.

Erminio Rullo was meant to move to Brescia this month, but rejected the transfer. “During the negotiations Napoli had agreed to sell Rullo to Brescia, but the player refused to complete the move,” read an official statement.

On Thursday Napoli expect Argentine goalkeeper Navarro to fly in for a contract signature and medical.

-----------
I've seen Santacroce play for the Azzurrini once, and he was pretty good. I guess this was a good buy for Napoli.

Inter Set To Ambush Sampdoria's Cassano Deal – Report

Inter Milan could be set to ambush Sampdoria’s attempts to sign Antonio Cassano permanently at the end of the season, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

Cassano is currently on a season-long loan at the Luigi Ferraris, and Samp have first option to make the move permanent in the summer for a fee of €5.5m.

This transfer sum should not be too much of a problem, however more troublesome should be Cassano’s wages.

The 25-year-old is on a contract of €4.5m a year at Real Madrid, a salary that clearly Sampdoria cannot afford.

This is where Inter President Massimo Moratti is looking to hijack the deal. The oil tycoon is prepared to match these wages or even increase them to bring the talented frontman to San Siro.

The Nerazzurri will be looking to sign one or two forwards in the summer, as Adriano and Hernan Crespo will both probably move on to pastures new.

Cassano has stated recently that he wants to stay at Sampdoria and that he is prepared to take a pay cut providing this is not too substantial.

Fantantonio famously scored his first ever goal in Serie A against Inter as a 17-year-old way back in 1999 for hometown club Bari.

Cassano is not the old little bitch anymore, he gets 4.5 Million because he was signed by Real Madrid, he is aware he is not that most wanted player (he never was), so I bet he will accept anything of 3 to 4 Million euros. And he deserves every penny of it!
