I saw the Couto incident for the first time on saturday and though the decision may have been harsh, I must question Couto's motives because as far as I know and I have seen it happen too many times when someone makes a diving header and puts his hands near his head he is up to mischief.

There was no reason for Couto to put his hand there if he was going for a diving header and he was not hoping that if he misses with his head his hand would not help. with all the noise, i was expecting to see something really blatant like a complete accident but it seemed to me Couto knew what he was doing.

The Biancocelesti are currently having a disastrous season and they are languishing in 14th position just three points above the relegation zone.

This has led to quite an active January transfer campaign, with Manchester City’s Rolando Bianchi and Dinamo Bucharest’s Stefan Radu already being snapped up.

The spending has not ended there, and the next name on the list, according to the Corriere dello Sport is Palermo star Andrea Barzagli.

Lazio want to sign Barzagli on loan until the end of the season, with an option to then sign him on a permanent basis for €13m.

The Biancocelesti are in need of a centre-back after Guglielmo Stendardo completed his six-month loan deal to Juventus this morning.

Palermo may agree to this proposal, providing they can find an adequate replacement before the transfer window closes. Reggina’s Salvatore Aronica is reportedly a target.

Rosanero President Maurizio Zamparini is also likely to demand that winger Pasquale Foggia, who is owned by Lazio but on-loan at Cagliari, is included in any deal.

The papers didn't write about Inter being helped by the refs only because they thought Inter are the new Juve.
These papers : Corriere dello sport, il Romanista (pro-Roma), Gazzetta dello sport (absolutely pro-Milan even though some people think they're pro-Inter) and Tuttosport (pro-Juve) did it only to put more pressure on the refs and on Inter players

How come it wasn't two footed? I've seen the replay over 5times now, he tackled with both feet at the same time. He went for the ball? yes, but anyone can go on the ball and tackle with two legs.

it's foul when you tackle with two legs even if you dont harm the player, because when you tackle with both feet you're already creating a chance for your oppenent to get hurt/injured.

He could have done that tackling one footed.

Not bad at all, but obviously not good enough for leading the standings.

This is 1 of many FIFA directives that i find to be very idiotic. If the ball is going into the net and is blatantly handled by an opponent, my belief is give that player a yellow card but award a goal.

@ Azzurri, you would be pretty pissed off if a Juventus player made such a good tackle and is sent off for that just because he lunged into it.

I am all against going in with 2 feet but not lunging and then kicking the ball with 1 foot cos that what Cesar did.

I personally dont like 2-footed tackes cos they are cowardly but that tackle was not imo anyways

in my book two-footed tackles are straight red cards. and about getting the ball, i don't think there are that many foolish players who will stand their ground and try their luck on the receiving end of a two-footed tackle, so it's not hard to win challenges with two-footed tackles.

Excellent analysis. I can conclude from that some things.

We are better than a mid-table team as we are being called around these walls often. In fact we have the characteristics of champions by winning the points against small and middle teams.

We have the potential, that is the breath to continue but this we could have seen from holding our position in the table with all the injuries we have suffered so far.

I can also say that we are not far from being title contenders, all we need is to match up the top teams and this is only done by adding depth and some talent. We all know that our objective is the CL spot, so we shall leave this extra strengthening until the summer.

Lazio have received a serious blow with the news that key defender Lorenzo De Silvestri will be out for a month with a thigh injury.

The young star limped off in the weekend’s stalemate with Torino and a scan has revealed that the problem is relatively serious.

Rather than heavy bruising, De Silvestri has twisted the muscle and will require a long period of rest to relieve the strain.

De Silvestri’s absence could hardly have come at a worse time as the Aquile have just let unsettled stopper Guglielmo Stendardo leave for Juventus on loan.
