Among all the bizarre things happening today in calcio, did anyone catch Spike Lee watching from the Fiorentina stands like he was at an LA Lakers' game?

"This is Mars Blackman with my main man, Money Mutu..."

Talk about a surreal day.

The Atalanta Ultras are some pretty hardcore individuals. It was certainly a good idea to halt that match.
And Doni and crew trying to chill those animals out...

Italy can seem like a society so many light years away from the U.S. here at times. The tolerance for thuggery and the complete intolerance for any single human life lost, where here we almost have a kind of zero tolerance for thuggery and yet treat the lives of those who might be killed from it as regrettable but almost inevitable casualties. I'm not sure which is worse, but either are bad on one end or the other.

from what i read from another forum it seems there's a massive riot against the police in rome and police stations infiltrated, destroyed, people injured etc etc.
answering violence with more violence; great idea :disagree:

and they wonder why italy would never be chosen to host any major football event in the next decade.

It's completely f*cked up and hypocritical. Even if this one cop were guilty of manslaughter or even murder, destroying and rioting against other people just because they get their paycheck from the same place is retarded.

italy reminds me of my own country in so many ways. the bad things: crime, violence and thuggery, ineffiency of the government and publice services. the good things: beautiful people and country, unique and wonderful culture.

btw, is it just me or is fiorentina the most attractive team to watch in europe, apart from maybe arsenal?

There are some rumors about a the possibility that Roma club could be on offer. Liverpool chairman Tom Hicks, at the head of Hmtf investments group, would be disposed to buy the club. The trade will cost to the American billionaire 150 million euros: one-third of how he has paid for "Reds" purchases. After the news Roma share has gained 5,6%. A simple financial solution?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-Time_Serie_A_Table

I found this on wikipedia. In terms of Serie A alone,Inter is the 2nd most succesful Italian club ever and not Milan. That was surprising.Whats taken into account here is the number of points won in Serie A and not the trophies.Juventus has 3481,Inter has 3119 and Milan has 2979.
You can slice the data four different ways and probably come up with three different answers. So I don't really see the point of the exercise, really.

It shows accurately the amount of times Inter fuck up on the last day.

Hicks Wants Roma Takeover Now?

The co-owner of Liverpool FC, Tom Hicks, is lining up a takeover of AS Roma, according to reports in Italy.

The Dallas businessman has an estimated wealth of well over $1 billion and earlier this year bought a 50 per cent share in Premiership giants Liverpool.

However Hicks is now eyeing up the Italian Serie A and is trying to convince current President Franco Sensi to sell up.

Hicks already made initial enquiries a few months ago however he is now ready to step up the pressure.

The 61-year-old co-founded the investment firm Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst in 1989, and is also the chairman of Hicks Inc, which owns and runs the Southwest Sports Group - the company that owns MLB’s Texas Rangers, NHL’s Dallas Stars, and the Mesquite Championship Rodeo.

If Hicks was to take over Roma, it could spark the beginning of foreign ownership in Serie A.

Currently all 20 presidents in the top-flight are Italian, unlike the English Premier League which is now dominated by overseas owners.

goal.com

Since 1999, during Franco Sensi's period in charge, Associazione Sportiva Roma has been a joint stock company. Currently Roma's shares are distributed between; 64.3% to Compagnia Italpetroli SpA (the Sensi family holding), 2.7% to ABN AMRO Holding NV, 2.5% to Danilo Coppola and 30.4% to other shareholders.
Along with Lazio and Juventus, i Lupi is one of only three Italian clubs quotated in Borsa Italiana .According to The Football Money League published by consultants Deloitte, in the season 2005–06, Roma was the twelfth highest earning football club in the world with an estimated revenue of €127 million.

Roma fans didn`t like this news. What do you think about it?I think its possible because Frano Sensi is so old and his daughter always gives like 10-15 mln euros for transfers in summer so all romanisti hate her. :D If this happens we`ll get italian Chel$ki and wouldn`t like to see that.

Was Spike Lee really at the Fiorentina game?

Sure was. Looked bored out of his freaking mind, though. Wearing a big puffy overcoat up in the stands.

Apparently he's in the middle of filming a movie in/around Florence.

Found via :google: :

Thats crazy. Spike Lee would be the last person I would have ever expected at a Serie A game.

Thanks for that great tidbit of information that definitely made my day. :weee:

Atalanta face Milan forfeit

Atalanta-Milan could be counted as 3-0 win to the Rossoneri, according to ex-judge Maurizio Laudi.

The game was abandoned after just six minutes at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia when a section of the Orobici support smashed the safety glass separating them from the pitch.

It remains to be seen what action will be taken after the weekend’s events, but Laudi has words of warning for Atalanta.

“They are at risk of the game being declared a Milan win,” he told Radio Marte Stereo.

“Atalanta could face financial and disciplinary sanctions, but the most likely outcome is that they will have to play behind closed doors or on neutral soil.”
