Among all the bizarre things happening today in calcio, did anyone catch Spike Lee watching from the Fiorentina stands like he was at an LA Lakers' game?

The Atalanta Ultras are some pretty hardcore individuals. It was certainly a good idea to halt that match.

Italy can seem like a society so many light years away from the U.S. here at times. The tolerance for thuggery and the complete intolerance for any single human life lost, where here we almost have a kind of zero tolerance for thuggery and yet treat the lives of those who might be killed from it as regrettable but almost inevitable casualties. I'm not sure which is worse, but either are bad on one end or the other.

from what i read from another forum it seems there's a massive riot against the police in rome and police stations infiltrated, destroyed, people injured etc etc.

italy reminds me of my own country in so many ways. the bad things: crime, violence and thuggery, ineffiency of the government and publice services. the good things: beautiful people and country, unique and wonderful culture.

Hicks Wants Roma Takeover Now?

The co-owner of Liverpool FC, Tom Hicks, is lining up a takeover of AS Roma, according to reports in Italy.

The Dallas businessman has an estimated wealth of well over $1 billion and earlier this year bought a 50 per cent share in Premiership giants Liverpool.

However Hicks is now eyeing up the Italian Serie A and is trying to convince current President Franco Sensi to sell up.

Hicks already made initial enquiries a few months ago however he is now ready to step up the pressure.

The 61-year-old co-founded the investment firm Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst in 1989, and is also the chairman of Hicks Inc, which owns and runs the Southwest Sports Group - the company that owns MLB’s Texas Rangers, NHL’s Dallas Stars, and the Mesquite Championship Rodeo.

If Hicks was to take over Roma, it could spark the beginning of foreign ownership in Serie A.

Currently all 20 presidents in the top-flight are Italian, unlike the English Premier League which is now dominated by overseas owners.

Thats crazy. Spike Lee would be the last person I would have ever expected at a Serie A game.

Atalanta-Milan could be counted as 3-0 win to the Rossoneri, according to ex-judge Maurizio Laudi.

The game was abandoned after just six minutes at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia when a section of the Orobici support smashed the safety glass separating them from the pitch.

It remains to be seen what action will be taken after the weekend’s events, but Laudi has words of warning for Atalanta.

“They are at risk of the game being declared a Milan win,” he told Radio Marte Stereo.

“Atalanta could face financial and disciplinary sanctions, but the most likely outcome is that they will have to play behind closed doors or on neutral soil.”
