Milan held by Fiorentina
Milan and Fiorentina shared the spoils in an entertaining 1-1 draw at the San Siro on Monday evening.
Brazil playmaker Kaka opened the scoring for the hosts with a 27th minute penalty only for Adrian Mutu's second half header to level things up and put an early end to both sides' winning starts to the season.
The game had been put back from the weekend due to Milan's involvement in the European Super Cup on Friday and it was Fiorentina who started the brighter, as Cesare Prandelli's side immediately looked to capitalise on any fatigue their opponents may have felt from their trip to Monaco.
But it was Milan who had the best chance to open the scoring, Alberto Gilardino turning Marek Jankulovski's cross goalwards, only to see Sebastian Frey pull off a remarkable save at the second time of asking.
Nevertheless, of the two sides, the Viola played by far the more fluent football early on and Italy international Giampoalo Pazzini should have put the visitors in the lead in the 22nd minute; his header from Tomas Ujfalusi's free kick flew inches over the bar.
For all Fiorentina's neat passing though, it meant nothing as Kaka's opener totally changed the course of the first half.
Massimo Ambrosini won the penalty after Allesandro Gamberini felled the Milan skipper as he made a burst into the box. There were few complaints from the Viola players, and Kaka stepped up to finish in typically cool fashion to put Milan ahead.
The goal instilled confidence in the hosts, while at the same time appearing to deflate Fiorentina and Milan went on to boss the remainder of the first half. Both Kaka and Seedorf should have done better with snap shots which failed to trouble Frey in the Viola goal before the half was out as Fiorentina struggled to get out of the own half.
That said, the best chance of the opening period fell to Pazzini on 38 minutes. But Dida was equal to the youngster's two quick fire stabbed efforts as he attempted to turn in Mario Santana's cross cum shot.
Mutu put Fiorentina right back into the game in the 56th minute, and it was again Santana who created the chance. The winger's quick feet fooled Alessandro Nesta, allowing him to pick out his Romanian team-mate, who rose to thump home a header at the far post.
As with Kaka's opener, Mutu's goal changed the course of the half, which was far more open and evenly balanced after it went in.
Milan could have grabbed a winner through Kaka's 66th minute volley, and should have scored when Inzaghi swung at nothing more than thin air six minutes later.
Equally, Fiorentina came close through Mutu's clever run and toe poke past the advancing Dida - the ball rolled agonisingly wide of the upright - and Zdravko Kuzamovic's first time effort which struck the base of the post.
But neither side could make a breakthrough and the points were shared, leaving just Juventus and Roma with 100% records after two rounds of the new season.

Fiorentina is indeed a great team and they are always a threat to any other big Italian team. Watch for their 3rd consecutive finish in the top 4. Maybe this time they won´t have points deducted. I just fear they might kick us out of the top 4. I hope not.As soon as he had a great match, they compare him to Maradona!

This guy is really good,but too early to compare him with Maradona or some other star.
