Mancini: "We're going to Turin to win!"

I'd say bring it on but it's in 2 weeks and we have no D. 1st time we played them it was all heart and determination. Now we're f*cked.

Tomorrow, the draw will decide who plays at home first.
What do you guys think, which one is better for us, to play first at home or away and why?
Generally it's better to play the first leg away. As you see in CL draws in which the first team of each group play the first legs of knocked ups away and it's because the second leg is much more decisive and having it at home is a priority which let you play it against your fans and if it goes to extra time, you have the chance to play 120 minutes at home.

But no worries if we have to play the first leg at home. Even a goalless draw would be good for us. We just better not to concede any goals at home which seems a very optimistic view considering our fragile defense.

Napoli chief blasts beaten side
Friday 18 January, 2008

Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis was livid after the Azzurri exited the Coppa Italia last night and hit out at the team and Coach.

The Vesuviani had set their hearts on Cup glory in their first season back in the top flight, but they came unstuck against Lazio.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, the Partenopei conceded at the Stadio San Paolo and Maurizio Domizzi’s late goal was too little too late.

“We really wanted to win partly because the Coppa Italia can get you into Europe. But evidently someone didn’t see it in the same way,” De Laurentiis boomed.

“Certainly if you want to lose a game you would play like Napoli did tonight.

“You want to play like that? Fine, but make sure you win. I’m a true Neapolitan – you always have to win.

“The fact is that if we had played properly from the start it would have been different – it wasn’t about the changes that were made in the second half after we were a goal down.

"If you want to win against a team like Lazio, you can’t play like that. We needed to show more energy and to look angrier out there. Evidently, Claudio Lotito spoke to the players while I didn’t.”

De Laurentiis’ comments will increase the pressure on Coach Edy Reja and also increase speculation that Napoli’s supremo will turn to the market.

“I want to buy someone and I would like to bring in two wingers, but they tell me that we are doing fine and that I should just shut up and watch,” he explained.

“However, this game is over now and I’m thinking about getting to 38 points – or survival.”

quick question, do away goals count in Coppa Italia? i always find it unfair in europe that away goals can count in extra time, seems a very unfair advantage

Away goals count in Coppa also.

As for the extra time advantage, look at it this way. The hosts get to play 30 more minutes at home ground while the visitors get the advantage if they score an away goal in extra time, so the advantages are nullified

one way to look at it, but say we get a 2-2 draw in milan and then they get a late-late equaliser in turin. 2-2 and 4-4 on aggregate, they score a late 3rd and we are left attempting to get 2 more goal ina short space of time.

swings and roundabouts but i always feel away goals should not count in extra-time

Inter's Mancini will not play son against Juve

MILAN, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has said he will not play his son Filippo against Juventus in the Italian Cup quarter-final.

The 17-year-old midfielder made his debut in Thursday's 3-0 win over Reggina in a last 16 second leg which gave Inter a 7-1 aggregate victory.

Despite Mancini's policy of fielding several youngsters in the Cup, he feels next week's first leg against rivals Juve will be too big for his son.

"No, no. Absolutely not," Mancini told Reuters when asked if his son would play.

Filippo came on as a second-half substitute against Reggina and after trying one overly-ambitious crossfield ball, he settled down and was tidy.

"He played too little to say how he did," Mancini added. "But it was important for him to make his debut like all the youngsters."

Mancini's son joins a long line of Italians who have followed their fathers into the game. Davide Ancelotti is a youngster at Carlo Ancelotti's AC Milan, while Paolo Maldini has surpassed his father Cesare's achievements in the game. His own son Christian is on the youth books at Milan.

Milan coach Ancelotti has been criticised in some quarters for saying the Italian Cup was not important following his side's elimination by Catania on Wednesday.

Mancini, whose side top Serie A by seven points and are also in the last 16 of the Champions League, said the Cup deserved respect even if other commitments got in the way. Inter were runners-up in the Cup last term.

"I don't know if it is important to win everything. But this competition is important for Inter because we want to reach the final so we will try to see if it is possible," he said.

"I've never seen anyone enter the pitch to lose, not even in games between friends."

The Reggina match, at a near-empty San Siro, also gave Mancini the chance to play some first teamers who have seen little action recently.

Hernan Crespo scored the first with a superb shot while midfielder Dejan Stankovic continued his comeback from injury with Cesar, Nicolas Burdisso and Santiago Solari also involved.

"All will be useful in this phase of the season with all the games we have," said Mancini.

I would prefer playing home first, so they would let us play in their stad. This way we won't score any goal in Milano, and when they score in Torino, we are fucked!

True, but what if we get a 2-2 draw in Milan and then WE get a late equaliser in Turin? Then we'll have 30 extra minutes in our home stadium and it wouldn't be fair either.

Let's eat them alive in San Siro and yes, I'm drunk

Well, either way against Inter we are going to get smashed, but in normal conditions it is better to play at home in the return game.
