Two-match ban for Morfeo Tuesday 11 October, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parma man Domenico Morfeo has been handed a two-match ban, while Livorno’s Cristiano Lucarelli will be suspended for the clash with Inter.

The Gialloblu creative midfielder was sent off during the 3-1 defeat away to Ascoli, as he launched into a late challenge on Parola.

The Disciplinary Commission deemed it serious enough to warrant a two-game suspension, ruling him out of games with Treviso and his old club Fiorentina.

Lucarelli was also red-carded in Week 6, as he took his protests too far just 17 minutes into Livorno’s 3-2 loss to local rivals Fiorentina.

It proved to be a costly loss of temper for the Amaranto captain, who will now skip the difficult match with Inter this weekend. He has also been handed a £700 fine for insulting the referee.

The other players suspended for one game in Serie A this weekend are Siena’s Simone Vergassola, Daniele Conti of Cagliari and Lazio defender Fabio Firmani.

Patrick Vieira is a major doubt for Sunday's Serie A clash with Messina after suffering an injury on international duty with France.

The former Arsenal star was withdrawn after just 24 minutes as Les Bleus took top spot in Group Four with a 4-0 win over Cyprus.

Vieira was below par in the 0-0 draw against Switzerland at the weekend and some reports had suggested that the accomplished midfielder was suffering from a groin injury.

It now appears as though the knock has been aggravated and doctors from the Bianconeri will examine the star on Thursday to ascertain his availability for Sunday's game.

French coach Raymond Domenech was reluctant to comment on the nature of Vieira's injury after leading his side to the World Cup finals next summer.

"He had real pain, he could not go on any more but I am no doctor," said Domenech.

If Vieira is ruled out of the tie against Messina, Juve coach Fabio Capello will be hopeful of having his French star back in action for the UEFA Champions League trip to Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
