Totti targets Lo Scudetto Thursday 22 September, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Francesco Totti has raised a few eyebrows by insisting that his Roma side can win the Scudetto this season.

The Giallorossi are already five points behind leaders Juventus, but the captain is in optimistic mood following the 4-1 win over Parma last night.

"Perhaps people will think I’m dumb, but I am aiming for the title and we can achieve that if we keep playing like this," he said.

Totti was a key factor in Roma’s success on Wednesday, as he scored his first League goal for seven months to get his side’s season back on track.

"I’ve been waiting for an evening like that for some time," continued the Italian international. "They were three really important points, I’m happy for the fans and for my teammates.

"I go into every match looking to give my best, sometimes I succeed and sometimes I don’t. But I’m content because I wanted to start a new chapter after last season’s disappointments."

The capital captain has made a good start to the new campaign, aided by his good relationship with boss Luciano Spalletti.

"He is teaching us a lot," noted Totti. "He told me to play in a more advanced role against Parma, but he usually allows me to go where I want on the pitch."

Totti’s performance was also witnessed by national boss Marcello Lippi, who would have also seen Christian Panucci’s performance and goal.

"I would take Panucci to the World Cup, but Lippi has eyes and it’s up to him to decide," concluded the forward.

Hopefully he didn't try to drive home after saying something like that. ;)

Totti, you of all people who wrote a couple of books on the subject should know. People already think you are dumb.

Woo hoo, Francesco. You just beat up on a side that had to duke it out in a relegation battle with Bologna at the season's end in order to stay in Serie A. And then they proceeded to lose their best players to Fiorentina, Milan, etc., in the off season. So start making room on the Roma trophy shelf.

The fight for the last CL spot is gonna be very interesting this season. Udinese, Palermo, Fiorentina, Roma and Sampdoria are all in with a shout if you ask me.

if totti gets back in form soon, roma could do really well this season and possibly even turn into championship.in all honesty,i would give roma a better chance of winning the league than inter simply because inter have some sorta serie A phobia and roma dont.though i doubt if any of them will win the league, but if i had to pick one,id give roma a better chance than inter.
and we continue to write off lazio yet again.
