Prandelli plans Milan surprise Tuesday 15 November, 2005

Third take on second on Sunday when Fiorentina welcome Milan and Cesare Prandelli insists the Viola will go on the attack.
“We know that on paper we cannot compete with the Rossoneri, as they have quality all over the field, but we have the great advantage of having nothing to lose,” smiled the tactician. “We know that we can do well in this match and that the history of football is full of surprises. There’s respect and admiration, but never fear.”
Prandelli’s men have won their last four Serie A games on the trot and have a 100 per cent record at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, so confidence is at an all-time high.
“We are certainly feeling the tension ahead of this game and will try to reach Sunday with the same mental approach that has taken us this far. We read and hear the Press talk, but when it comes to stepping on to that field, we know what has to be done.”
Fiorentina have undoubtedly been the surprise outfit of the season so far and are five points clear of Inter in third place. A victory would put them on level terms with the mighty Milan, but they also face ties against Roma and Juventus over the next fortnight.
“We must take this one game at a time and remain concentrated, taking advantage of whatever weak points we can find in their armour. If we can limit Andrea Pirlo, then perhaps we can create a few more problems for the Rossoneri, although I’ve seen that he can change position to avoid a marker. We’ll need to keep open and adaptable.”
Prandelli comes face to face with Alberto Gilardino for the first time since he left Parma, and the £17m rated striker this week thanked his former boss for kick-starting his career.
“I thank Alberto for the compliments, but a Coach can only achieve great results with the help of great players. In my view, Fiorentina has those players.”
There’s no doubting who the key player is for the Viola, as Luca Toni is Capocannoniere with 13 goals in 11 games and Fiorentina have lost the only two matches in which he has failed to score.
“Many people are amazed by how well he is doing, but we have always believed in Luca,” insisted the Coach. “Palermo put him on the market and none of the big clubs made an offer, so we dived in there. To be honest, I think he can do even better.”
Six players have been suspended for Serie A Week 12. They are Federico Cossato (Chievo), Diego De Ascentis (Livorno), Antonio Langella (Cagliari), Paolo Dellafiore (Treviso), Gianluca Falsini (Siena) and Nicola Legrottaglie (Siena).
