It's going to go down to the wire between Sampdoria and Udinese for that fourth and final Champions League spot. Good stuff :thumb:

AS Roma drifted dangerously close to the Serie A relegation zone after a 2-1 defeat to Sampdoria on Sunday which also moved the Genoa club up to fourth place. Max Tonetto's goal and a Francesco Flachi penalty put Samp 2-0 up before an injury-time spot kick from Vincenzo Montella for Roma.

The result moves Sampdoria to 55 points, two more than Udinese in the fight for the fourth Champions League qualification spot.

Roma's season has appeared meaningless for several weeks but it has come alive now -- their latest defeat leaves them just five points away from the relegation zone with five matches remaining.

I hope Udinese gets the fourth spot. They've really stepped it up the past few seasons, and I think it's time that there's some Champions' League action (if they get past qualifying) in Fruili next year.

Is it good for the league to lose Roma and Parma, I think not...even though they are not good teams this season but their presence adds a spice.

Roma is just in a miserable tailspin, epitomized by Totti's 5 game ban before today's match. (Next time Tudor plays against Totti, he should hold up [or down, more like it] five fingers in response to Totti's four last season. :dielaugh: ).

Granted, playing Samp at home is no easy matter. I really like how scrappy they have been, Novellino's coaching style, and how they re-entered Serie A a couple years ago with a sound strategy of recruiting disgruntled castaways from big squads. But Roma looks like a team that needs to end the season sooner better than later as a sort of mercy killing for them. I can't even take much satisfaction on how clearly sad they look now.

Sampdoria is a very difficult side. Obviously we know because they beat us at the Delle Alpi of all places.

Hopefully Samp will be able to continue their great form throughout next season.

I have seen the highlights of Serie A, he seems pretty good, well not as good as Buffon, but his agility is somehow amazing. I would like to keep a lookout of him.

BTW, he's only 20 years old, Roma 3rd choice keeper.
