It ended 3-3... I'm a fan of neither team, but It's good to see Roma come back to draw the game. The result is the best for Juve since both teams lost points... :thumb:

It was a great game. Best game in Serie A so far.

Serie A Week 5 - 3/10/04 (20.30)
Roma 3 - 3 Inter
Montella 9 (R), Cambiasso 45 (I), Veron 51 (I), Recoba 54 (I), Totti 57 (R), De Rossi 74 (R)
Stadio Olimpico

Gigi Del Neri wanted exciting football and got it when his new look Roma side drew 3-3 with Inter in a spectacular encounter.

This is usually an enticing fixture, but when both sides are desperate for points and Gigi Del Neri is making his debut as Roma's third Coach of the campaign it becomes unmissable.

Del Neri shelved his favourite 4-4-2 system in order to create an all-attack trident of Amantino Mancini, Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano supporting Vincenzo Montella.

Inter also made a few changes, as the rhombus shaped midfield with Esteban Cambiasso in a deeper role protecting the back four proved successful in their 3-1 Champions' League victory away to Anderlecht. Christian Vieri, Emre Belozoglu and Giuseppe Favalli are injured, so Alvaro Recoba surprisingly started behind front two Obafemi Martins and Adriano.

The first chance came after two minutes, as Antonio Cassano's close-range effort was charged down for a corner and Roma broke the deadlock soon after.

Cassano didn't control Mancini's cross, but Montella chested it down behind him and volleyed it into the top corner at the near post. The Aeroplanino had been left out of recent games and made his comeback in style.

Moments later Inter went close to an equaliser when Obafemi Martins held on under pressure from Christian Panucci and was sliced down by Matteo Ferrari, but the referee waved play on.

The Giallorossi were more fiery to begin with and Cassano fired just over the bar with an ambitious shot from distance.

Ivan Pelizzoli plucked a powerful long-range Dejan Stankovic strike out of the air, but it was end to end with both teams rushing forward on the counter-attack.

A fierce Francesco Totti free kick was fingertipped over the bar by Francesco Toldo, then Mancini failed to provide Montella with the right pass in a promising move.

Daniele De Rossi escaped without punishment after a crunching tackle through the back of Martins, but the Nigerian was unable to continue and limped off to make way for Edgar Davids before half-time. This forced Roberto Mancini to change his tactics, pushing Alvaro Recoba up to partner Adriano.

It proved an important switch, as moments later Recoba's swerving cross from the left was met by Esteban Cambiasso's free header. The Roma defence was clearly static when the former Real Madrid midfielder ran out from behind them.

In first half stoppages there was further controversy, as Mancini fell in the box under a challenge from Cambiasso and again the referee waved away penalty appeals.

Del Neri made a substitution after the break with Traianos Dellas taking over from Christian Panucci, moving Philippe Mexes out to the right. The defence was under pressure within two minutes of the second half, as Stankovic set up Recoba and the Uruguayan unusually hesitated before getting his shot away.

At the other end of the field Simone Perrotta's attempt was deflected wide of the target, but Inter were rather more fortunate with their deflection as Juan Sebastian Veron's strike looped up off Mexes' ankle and over a helpless Pelizzoli.

Roma fell apart psychologically and moments later Inter added a third to their tally. Recoba ran on to a Stankovic through ball and thumped a powerful drive under the bar from a tight angle.

The Giallorossi needed a sign and quickly, so it was provided by their captain with a simply spectacular free kick from a good 20 metres. It curled over the defensive wall and into the near corner - marking his 100th Serie A goal.

Cassano was replaced with Mido, but the youngster had no intention of changing his behaviour for the new Coach and insulted Del Neri as he left the field. The fans also showed that they are no longer willing to put up with his behaviour and booed the young star as he walked down the tunnel.

The Giallorossi were beginning to dominate the game once more, but Adriano finally made an impact on 70 minutes when he charged past three defenders and his angled drive was deflected on to the side-netting.

Del Neri made a tactical switch with Olivier Dacourt replacing Montella, allowing Totti and Daniele De Rossi to push forward.

It proved decisive, as soon after Roma drew level with Italian international De Rossi. A free kick was held up by Dellas and eventually turned into the net from close range by De Rossi.

Adriano was Inter's main threat and Leandro Cufre' barged him off the ball as he charged towards the goal. From the resulting free kick a good 20 metres away the Brazilian unleashed a missile that skimmed the crossbar, a shot measured at 142km per hour.

Roberto Mancini saw that Roma were pushing and gave Cristiano Zanetti his first appearance since suffering his injury in place of Stankovic, while Julio Cruz gave them more height instead of Recoba.

The tension rose and in the closing minutes a scuffle broke out between Mido and Cambiasso.

Inter thought they had grabbed the winner in stoppages when Nicolas Andre Burdisso found the ball at his feet from seven yards, but the defender slipped and failed to get his shot away.

At the other end Totti's chipped pass found a Mexes volley that was smothered by Davids and Pelizzoli. There was the feeling that either side could easily come away with all three points, but it ends a spectacular 3-3.
