Will Baggio be back?
Thursday 9 September, 2004

The new Serie A season is about to start without Roberto Baggio but reports suggest it may end with him.

The 37-year-old retired from the game at the end of last term, yet he is believed to be considering a comeback.

Unconfirmed stories suggest that Baggio has already sent signals to Bologna boss Carlo Mazzone about a return.

"If he starts to miss the game and the stress, then he may decide to reconsider his decision," said Mazzone recently.

"If this happens then we will only know about it at the end of September and not before then."

Baggio is currently on holiday with his family but he is keeping fit with regular running sessions.

Whispers claim that if he does decide to put his boots on again then a return to Bologna is the most likely option.

However, Brescia are also keen to have him back after he left the Stadio Rigamonti in the summer.

Lazio and newly promoted Fiorentina are known to be interested in the legendary Italian superstar too.

Although the transfer window is now shut, Baggio could in theory sign for a club tomorrow as he is a free agent.

Milan have Shev doubt
Thursday 9 September, 2004

Milan are confident that Andriy Shevchenko will be fit for this weekend despite an injury scare.

The Ukrainian picked up a slight muscle problem on international duty and missed his country’s game against Kazakhstan last night.

That led to fears that he may be ruled out of Saturday’s clash against Livorno but the Rossoneri are remaining optimistic.

"I’ve spoken to him on the phone and we will carry out all the necessary tests," Milan medic Massimiliano Sala told Milan Channel.

"He felt a slight twinge on Monday during training with his country and he didn’t play yesterday as a precaution.

"However, there shouldn’t really be anything to worry about."

If Shev isn’t given the green light for Week 1 then boss Carlo Ancelotti will only be able to call on the services of Jon Dahl Tomasson and young Nicola Pozzi.

That is because Pippo Inzaghi, given his ankle problems, and Hernan Crespo are still struggling with fitness issues.

The tactician would probably decide to use a 4-3-2-1 system, with Kaka and Manuel Rui Costa supporting Tomasson, if Shevchenko doesn't feature.

Old shirt for new Parma
Thursday 9 September, 2004

Parma have unveiled their new shirt – deciding to revert to the jersey they first wore back in 1913.

The Tardini outfit have used blue and yellow in recent years but they will now appear in a white shirt with a dark blue cross on the front.

"It is emotional to see it again," stated director Luca Baraldi at today’s official presentation. "This is a return to our origins and a dream for all our fans."

The club are trying to start a new era after they lost the financial support of major backers Parmalat last term.

Yet despite some high profile departures over the summer, Baraldi is confidently looking ahead to the new campaign.

"We have a squad of 31 players of which 27 of them are aged 25 or under," explained the official. "A third of our players are also internationals."

Arrigo Sacchi, Parma’s transfer consultant, is also optimistic about the strength of the players at Silvio Baldini’s disposal.

"The value of this season’s side is no different from the one we had in the second half of the last campaign," stated the former national boss.

"Our objective? So long as the players give their very best then we will be happy with whatever we achieve."

Unfortunately for us it doesn't seem to be a serious injury and even if Sheva does miss the opener this weekend, it's only against Livorno.

Sheva had an injury?

It did happen!
Nothing serious though. He's expected to play against Livorno on Saturday, and if he doesn't it'll probably be because Ancelotti doesn't want to take any risks ahead of Milan's CL game.

oh come on guys, don't you think that's a bit cold, wishing that someone would break their legs for the sake of football? There's much better and less violent ways for Sheva to be out of action (drug ban, suspension) :D
