If it were a debate about christianity then it would be unfair singling out the catholics, but its a debate about the catholics so its perfectly fair! He argued in the Supreme Court against the extension of the copyright term and ever since has worked heavily in order to promote free culture (started Creative Commons). Not saying Fry is uninformed about the topic but he's a bit of a... noob.

No marriage is a legal contract, thats why you sign a contract, a Marriage ceremony is a religious concept. The difference is being married in the eyes or your lord and being married in the eyes of the law. religion demands both. Forcing gay people to be civil partnered as opposed to married is demeaning.
