You have missed my point...Eddy. Entirely...In situations like these, when we are considering a Leader who incurs the angst of both Tel Aviv and Washington, on a regular basis, any large scale protest against him, is more than likely to have some support, guidance, and funding, from the foreign powers who seek to remove him. When a government cannot displace a foreign leader by military might, for any number of reasons, they use other tactics. Ask the CIA...There are many ways to cut off the head of an enemy organization.

And some people here want one big Arab, Muslim state :disagree:
Yeah, but the Iranians aren't Arab and you can't even call it Islam what they're doing over there. :)

The government is oppressing people in different ways and the people are protesting against it.
It happened in many societies, no matter if they were islamic, non-islamic or non-religious at all.

Persians scmersians.

Discounting Stalin due to his cult of personality + Khmer Rouge etc., I don't think such a thing has happened in a seculary-governed society.

The fact that they listen to a Cleric re: law making would testify to this. From Kindom to Oligarchy by the grace of Mohammed...

I do not see the relevance.

I said i want an Arab state that looked just like the one in the Rashidun Caliphate era, completely different to the autocracy you see right now in Iran.

What such thing? And you remember why there was a "revolution" that lead to this current regime? Who they overthrew?

What was Saddam Hussein? What was the 100s of modern dictators who zip to do with religion?

It's not so much secularism that matters as it is the totality with which the government rules.
