Doesn't matter what we think, only what Il Trap thinks:

Alex gets Trap vote
Monday 31 May, 2004

Alex Del Piero looks set to keep his Italy starting shirt despite pressure from an in-form Antonio Cassano.

The Roman looked in fine shape against Tunisia last night but boss Giovanni Trapattoni will keep faith with the Juventus captain.

"I liked what Alex did. He was tactically very good but also skipped past players and increased the team’s tempo," stated the tactician.

"His position on the left also gives us a little something extra because it allows Francesco Totti and Christian Vieri more freedom to play further up the field."

Despite Trap’s praise, many pundits are calling for Cassano to be selected ahead of Del Piero after his performance in the 4-0 win.

But the veteran boss seems set to use the 21-year-old on a strictly part-time basis for Euro 2004.

"Cassano came on in the second half when the pace of the game had dropped," noted Trapattoni.

"In my career I’ve had a number of players like Cassano, stars that can come off the bench and make a difference."

Another Azzurri who seemed in great form was Roma captain Totti who dictated Italy’s play.

"Totti was closely marked as he will be during the European Championships," explained the former Juve maestro.

"Therefore we saw him go very deep to collect the ball. Other times he swapped positions with Del Piero and this is another strength of our team."

...
Forza Del Piero per sempre! :strong:

I'd play the exact same thing but Fiore would be there rather than Camo.
Why? Fiore is more talented than Camo for sure but for some reason is less effective. Stefano's last few games fot the NT have been ordinary.

Damn I hate TV in the US!! No International friendlies, no EURO 2004!! :fero:
FOR THE LAST TIME, GET DISH NETWORK !!!!!!!!!

As far as the game goes, most of my thoughts are on DP. He didnt play badly , but missed on a breakaway that he SHOULD have easily converted.

The Vieri pass to DP in front of the net only led to a weak shot, right at the keeper. Not good........

Pirlo had a nice free-kick goal, and Gattuso really impressed me with the ball skills he is developing

I expected one of the "trio" to score, was a little disappointed that they didnt

this is late, but, anyway..

the match was.. good.. but, I have a few notes about it.. just the negative ones..

-what was camo doing..? his individuality show is annoying.. I'm starting to hate this guy..

-corradi.. what did trap pick him for..? why? there are better striker than him.. miccoli, Fava, Bazzane.. to name a few..

what's up with Tunisia..? they played like they will lose their african title if they lost.. it's just a friendly game.. not worth being that harsh on some key players like DP, totti, vieri..etc..

Still, I rather have to depend on Fiore than the oh so consistent Camoranesi :wallbang:
