Marchisio was horrible, much at fault for the goal and invisible for large parts of the game.
What do you expect from Marchisio, having a third eye on his back and see that Dempsey was actually making the run to the side? It's simply a good link up play and a good low drilled shot from the oppositions.

Robben's first goal so FM-ish
BTW can someone rate Sneijder's performance? I wonder if he has been so poor lately or is it just good, old Tinkerman's fault

Italy needs their trio of attackers back or else they'll never break down teams that throw all their players behind the ball. They played very lackluster and mediocre today. If the Azzurri don't get Cassano and Rossi back I'm afraid it'll be a WC'10 all over again.

Good game from the Americans. Kudos to them.

He was the man marking Dempsey at that attack, he should have watched him with both eyes, yet he allowed Dempsey to receive the ball and take a shot inside the box. Barzagli or Buffon could have saved his ass, but still most of the blame lies on Marchisio.

starting at 0:20.

I watched that goal.

The circumstance was unfortunate:
------------------------------------------>
Dempsey Marchisio Altidore Barzagli Buffon

He had Dempsey covered WHEN the ball's crossed but then the ball goes to the other player, and he HAD TO focus on him. Had Marchisio watch Dempsey right when the ball reached that other guy and Dempsey was starting his run, he would react slower because he had to turn his head around. And it all happened for what, like 2 seconds?

He didn't even lose Dempsey in the end, he had two players in front of him (including Marchisio) and the shot got through.

My point is there's no need to blame anyone, it was a good move from opposition all around. Dempsey has always a good thing when it comes to shooting.

Good to see Robben beast it. Fuck those arrogant Bayern scumbags. Save it up for the summer Arjen.
He was so fantastic tonight, from where I could see the goals from him were of top quality, also it's very strange to see the Dutch actually take the game by the neck like Robben did at the end; usually the dutch dont sense blood like that, but whe Robben just drove into the England defence the fans went wild! With Sneijder not on top form pray that Robben stays fit. Hup Holland!

It's not just that, but it'll be a decisive issue. The tempo today was very flat until the end of the game, which is not abnormal in the friendlies. The difference in the ones they win is that one of those forwards just pulls a pass or shot off that decides a 1-0 or 2-0 win rather than 0-0 or narrow loss.

Italy were really mediocre. Slow tempo, poor midfield play, pretty useless on the flanks (besides Maggio's first 25 mins). They really lack that cutting edge up front without Balo, Cassano or Rossi.

Anyway this game made me realize once again how much more I prefer Club Footy. International football is sooo boring, even tournaments these days are pretty lackluster IMO.

Imo that's the mistake Marchisio made there, you can't just run around and follow the ball, that's not called proper defending, besides Altidor had Barzagli all over him and Chiellini ready to help Andrea. Dempsey's so called "run" was three steps to get around Marchisio, if Claudio spent attention to Dempsey not the ball he could've avoided that. Anyways, I was taught that you can defend pretty much everything if you position yourself good and take the right decisions, that probably makes the difference in our opinions, cheers.

If he didn't follow the ball, how the hell he's going to know where's the danger coming from? Sorry but it's ridiculous to think that someone would turn his back to watch an opposition who's in front of the box while another is already 1-on-1 with a defender in the box, only meters away. This is not basketball where every man would mark another opposition by himself aka man to man defense. Especially when the ball is in the penalty box with the opposition, near players would naturally sense the danger and put most of his attention to him.

Just to make it clear: he did mark Dempsey but then because the ball was on Altidore, he had to turn his attention and unfortunately that would make Dempsey right in his blind spot. Marchisio was trying to close him down to minimize his space as he's the imminent danger at the time while Barzagli hold down his fort so he can't move forward. Dempsey however made a move and Altidore made the smart pass, followed by a good shot from Dempsey himself.
