This Azzurri squad is much much weaker than 2006's.
Yea but everybody said that about the 2006 squad being much weaker than previous Azzurri teams, to be fair to Lippi he was pretty heavily criticized throughout qualifying for 2006, but the Cassano and Pazzini snubs are inexcusable

That Italy squad was a team at its peak in age and quality, but I think there is a lot to like how this Italy team plays now and it can hold its own against most. Pirlo for example plays much better for the Azzurri than he does in Milan, Zambrotta too, also Grosso. De Rossi is a better player now and Chiellini has been added, also Marchisio, Rossi and an improved Iaquinta. WC 2010 is going to be a swansong for one or two who maybe should have been replaced by then, but then there are risks with putting in inexperienced players, especially in defence and midfield.

I'm really tired of hearing that TBH.

Remember how the WC2006 team wasn't convincing either in the qualifiers?Lippi knows what he's doing,he counts on a good team and not on great individuals(Cassano).

That's the only way to explain how he is not calling up Fantantonio.

:agree:

I'd even add Cassani of Palermo in the squad with some other mentioned before.

Most of these players were at their prime. That's whay I'm saying 2006 was better. He added a couple of players and that's about it.

Didn't that team have some crazy unbeaten run close to 30 games leading up to the world cup? Still, I think I was more convinced then. Lippi is Lippi.

Cassano-Gila for WC

oh i just noticed you deleted camo :) imo hes at the point where he should only come on as a sub he phases in and out of games i love his class and technique but hes just not commited the whole 90 minutes
I think he can start but he is to old to be playing 90 minutes in the Serie A, CL, and internationals. He should start regularly and be replaced on the hour.

Fair point but I still think I'd let him play first 55-60 minutes. It's not the old Camo but he can add a lot both defensively and in attack. Somehow I think he'd do much, much better like that then as a sub. And who would play instead of him?
