Yeah true, but its a matter of timing in a way so to speak, your parents immigrate when you are a little kid (Makalele 3, Vieira 7, Desailly adopted at 8), or your parents immigrate before you are born and give birth to you at your new country. Its either way children of immigrants who are grow up in that Country and more or less be defined by and identify with that country as an individual in various ways, despite their very close emotionally to their country of origin still (ones parents upbringing is real vital).

Bottomline they really arent there for a footballing reason, are they? Thats what matters. Not 16 year old footballer signed to a club in a country, and then choose to play for that country because you have no hope in hell to get to play for your country, like it has been for Eduardo ;)
Touche :D

Is Zlatan Ibrahimovic a traitor to Bosnia/Croatia? He is not born there, but in Sweden.

I can go all day, basically, you think only the birth place of an individual that should decide it and that person is defacto a traitor if he doesnt choose his birth place? If so, where should Rio Mavuba play? :D

Yes. But it's his right as a human being to be so.
I believe its much more complex than that. It really isn't that easy imo.

Let me give you an example. I know a guy here, whose Dad moved to the UAE 30 years ago. He was born in the UAE, raised in the UAE and has never went to any other country outside the UAE. Is he an Emirati?

Only a person who has never felt the discomfort and angst that the society they find themselves growing up in can be so certain of their conviction.

So often they are white and middle-class.

Prolly not because he prolly doesnt have an Emirati passport.

Those faschist fucks have other arab people (or other ethnicities) like Palestinians who lived there for 40 years, but have no citizenship or any right whatsoever, have to have an Emirati as the official signature any bussiness venture you want to do, and any time can be ripped off and completely robbed by that Emirati and the state in general (even if you very rich, you can be robbed any 2nd and thrown to jail without any reason for life).

ah f*ck it, they should play where they feel like. If the federation allows it then good for them. Still, desperate move from Portugal. They should play Nuno Gomes all the time. :D

Honestly, it doesn't really matter. Rossi played here, his family lived off the system, but he plays for Italy.

If you guys think you can get me to like him, you're absolutely fucking morons. I have a right of free speech in saying that he is indeed a traitor, and I will use this right because that's the beauty of free speech. He could have become a legend playing for the US, but he chose not to.

That's an OK decision by him. He has the right to do so. But I don't have to like him. Never will.

:agree:

The answer to the question would probably depend largely on the country he lives in too. If the same guy was in the US he probably could consider himself an American.

Mark, I agree with you about these brazilians and other clear mercenary stuff (Camoranesi included). Just saying one shouldnt group those with the others.

I mean the mercenary brazilians and others (though its like 90% brazilians anyway) even have the gaul to say publically that they prefer brazil and love brazil, that they would play for brazil any time and see themselves as brazilians (Amauri belongs to this group), but see this 2nd country as a "career" opportunity. They dont even have the decency to lie, Senna even said the above after the euro win with Spain, when he was on holiday in Brazil. How insulting.

Not exactly because Eduardo is just one of many in Croatia, and Osman chose him only because the color of his skin makes him different than Simunic, Kovac brothers, Klasnic, Rakitic etc.

Hell, these guys never played in Croatia and were born and raised in other countries. They got their Croatian passport only because they were talented football players.

The only difference between them and Eduardo is that their parents were Croat and his weren't.

Anyway, i believe that players can play for whichever country they want to if they posses a passport from that country.
I have absolutely no problem with Amauri and Rossi playing for Italy, Liedson playing for Portugal, Vieira playing for France, Aurelio playing for Turkey or some Brazilian playing for Qatar.
That's why i enjoy making fun of those who are against these things.

I have cousins in the US, who consider themselves 100% Americans despite not being born there, while I know "foreign" guys of my age here in Sweden, who are not only born here, but their PARENTS are born here. And you know what? If you ask them, they will say they dont consider themselves as Swedes whatsoever.

Everything I know about the US, from relatives and such, is that you are IMMERSED very quickly and thoroughly to the country's identity and society (defenitely the best at this, the yanks, though obviously easier when there is no "set" standard for an american, while you would stick out in Sweden like hell). So yeah, defenitely different conditions for different places.

Well there is no purpose of NT football, if Aurelio's are going to be playing for Turkey, Sebastian Soria's playing for Qatar and Eduardo's playing for Croatia.
