Why does the English NT suck though?

Football is popular in the country, there are youth coaches, it's not a 3rd world country/infrastructure, they have produced world class players in the past like Lampard, Beckham and Owen.

Since 2009? England haven't won a game at the U20 WC finals since 1997. Since then they have played Egypt (2), USA, Japan (2), Iraq and Uzbekistan, amongst others. Some good players have come through over that period despite those results.

The most telling thing is looking at players and performances, there are very few really promising players in the U20 group for England. James Ward-Prowse is one, and the massively hyped Ross Barkley. There are also 2-3 available in the U21 selection. Still, the problems go further than that, mentality and identity are a big problem.

:D

They were actually somewhat unlucky getting knocked out in this tournament. That said the huge influx of foreigners in rich EPL has and is playing the biggest role in their demise (atleast thats some benefit).

its simple, their development programme is all wrong, there was a blueprint that was meant to introduce a more technical orientated training programme for kids which the FA rejected and the Germans picked up instead, now they are reaping the rewards. Look at it this way whilst a lot of other countries like Brazil and the latin nations in general are playing futsal, english kids are still encouraged to hoof the ball 40 yards up the field when they are in posession

yes thats true what badass said, in germany we changed a lot since 2000, because in 2000 germany had a really bad tournament and were bottom of the group with england, portugal and romania here the list :

1 Portugal
2 Romania
3 England
4 Deutschland

that was a disaster for german football, therefore the association started to change many things as badass already said :

another problem in england is the big influence of foreign investor like in chelsea and manchester city, those sugar daddy's dont care about good english youth players, all they want is success, and therefore they buy foreign stars instead looking for some english talents, for example here the difference between Manchester city and Dortmund. Foreign players in manchester city make about (65,4 %) of the team, lets see in comparison dortmund, Foreign players in Dortmund make about (29,0 %) of the team...

that is only a small reason why, but generally speaking at youth level you are more likely to make it as a player in England if you are either tall or someone with immense pace, they don't look at actual technical ability and how they are able to keep the ball

English footballers always were/are/will be mediocre overoverrated players, their best midfielder in the past 30 years is Paul Scholes and yet he was the most underrated player that i ever witnessed in english premier league

depends on what you mean by underrated, he is immensely rated in england but perhaps not so much outside of england, his premature retirement from international football didn't help
When you will ask people who was the best midfielder in the EPL in the past 20 years a few could remember Scholes while he was the most complete english player in that period and instead of him people remember Beckham, McNamanan or even Paul fucking Ince but not Scholes who was better than Gerrard, Lampard and others
