I never understood the point of Instagram. It's like recording your rock band to make it sound like it's on a 78rpm record of 1950s quality. I think it has more to do with giving users the fake feeling that they're actually creating some kind of art.

If I wanted to do that, I would just make an Andy Warhol app that makes everybody look like a soup can.

It's all about making the process of taking and sharing aesthetically-pleasing photos easier and less time-consuming. It does a great job at distracting the viewer from the flaws in the shot or the lack of photographic skills of the user. Works well, as you can see.
