Chiellini has a sprained knee. Out for at least a month

After winning against Empoli and qualifying for the next round of the Italian Cup, Juventus went straight back to work in Vinovo, preparing the game against Sampdoria, scheduled for next Sunday. Obviously those employed against Empoli only trained lightly, while the rest of the group carried out technique exercises.

Giorgio Chiellini, who last night had to hobble off the pitch halfway through the first half of the Italian Cup match, underwent a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance test today, which confirmed the first diagnosis by Juventus' medical staff: Giorgio has sprained his right knee, affecting the ligament also. Further lesions were ruled out. He will probably need more than a month to recover, though, so the player should be back on the pitch by the end of February.

On Sunday, Ranieri will have Nicola Legrottaglie back, unavailable against Empoli, and Cristian Molinaro, who suffered an injury against the Tuscans, but will recover in time for the game against Sampdoria.

    SO, the update for today:

    Players that did not participate in the training at all: Buffon, Andrade, and Marchionni...

    Chiellini has just started to undergo a special training...

    Zebina has recovered and is available again.

    Did we forget anybody??

    Claudio Ranieri has a new worry ahead of Juventus’ crunch match against Udinese after Alessandro Del Piero picked up a knock in training.

    The battle of the Bianconeri is the pick of the weekend’s matches as the two sides fight it out for a place in the Champions League.

    Juve look likely to have to do without Azzurri goalkeeper Gigi Buffon due to a back problem, but were relieved to learn that Serie A Capocannoniere David Trezeguet had overcome muscular problems.

    However, at the 11th hour it seems that the Old Lady have a new injury headache.

    Captain Del Piero received a blow to his knee during a collision with defender Giorgio Chiellini in training this afternoon and was sent to see medical team while in obvious discomfort.

    The knee is swollen and there is a cut, but the severity of the damage isn’t yet known.

    At the moment, the doctors believe the injury may just be severe bruising, which, although not serious, could see Del Piero ruled out of Sunday’s trip to the Stadio Friuli

    man and it was a collision with chiellini.... the guy is just back from injury...

    The team are busy preparing their next important fixture. On Sunday the schedule will pit Juventus against dangerous opponents Udinese.

    The Friuli-based team, managed by Pasquale Marino, were the first to beat the Bianconeri in the early part of the season and are still in the running for fourth place; they will face Ranieri's men at the Friuli Stadium, a ground where Juventus have had many a great day, especially when they won the title there on May 5 2002.

    After the internationals returned to base, the group were able to work at full ranks in today's training session, held in the morning in Vinovo. Alessandro Del Piero hurt his right knee during the session. However it was nothing serious and the Captain will be available for Sunday's game. Claudio Ranieri will name the squad for the game during his traditional press conference on the eve of the match.

    At 1 pm, the Manager will speak with the journalists at the Juventus Media Center press room in Vinovo. Live coverage on Juventus Channel.

    I did forget about him for a little bit,but I was flipping through some pictures and saw him and realised that I didn't hear any news thats why I asked.

    On the Juve site it said that he was on the pitch today as well. So it seems that we might be seeing him sometime soon..

    I would love to know when Marchionni is coming back. Judging from this pic from yesterday's training, it won't be long until we see him again.:)
