I hate infographics. This year I came to the conclusion that infographics are created by morons for morons to understand topics too big for their collective feeble minds.

Here's an example of an infographic. As I mentioned, made for morons by morons.

It insults the intelligence of readers by suggesting that instead of reading trivial factoids in a Harper's Index style, for example, people are so stupid that they need a pretty picture to help them read. It's asinine, really.

But it's how you take trivial nuggets of information and present them to an eight-year-old so they can understand. If people need this to learn, they're hopeless and haven't evolved beyond a third grade education.

And what do you learn, really, from these things? That Elugelab was shaped like the hat of a Sicilian farmworker?

I guess it's just to condense basic facts into a format that's easy to process. Not for stuff like astrophysics.

Why did Reb open this thread anyway?

I thought they were fun at first. Then realized how trivial they were, and how much they made me stupid. It hit me that I just got some useless eye candy and was left believing that I learned something when I learned absolutely nothing. That's the sham of them.

These may provide for a source of information for some people, but I thought they provide for a material for discussion in different topics rather than providing the mere info itself. And that's why I opened this thread. When anybody posts a graphic that does not mean he agrees with everything it contains, or at least that is me.

If I walk into an exhibit or a museum I think something like that would be helpful (on a poster for ex.) If it's in a text book and replaces actual text then I'd agree with you Greg.
