Del Piero:

"19th matchday: Juve vs. Reggina 1-0

Another day to remember. A stage, an award, chants, all very moving and with much participation: thank you all, yesterday's welcome depicts what I gave and got back playing in this team, and the strong bond between me, my supporters and the team....But we must not forget the match and the new record achieved: yesterday's victory allows us to finish the first leg of the League with 52 points, a new record for the Serie A. Points gained against Reggina that gave us a hard time: a hard fought first half, with a couple of good chances to score, until the goal finally arrived, thanks to the whole team I managed to score just before the end of the first half; second half always very hard fought but with no other opportunities. Now we need to concentrate on the second leg of the League, and the next match is an away one against Chievo Wednesday evening. Talk to you soon!"

Del Piero is a really great role model or idol for young football aspiring kids. Lots of kids grow up with idols that has the wrong attitude or personality but Del Piero has a lot to teach the youngsters on how to approach the game.

So true. I can only imagine how much different I would be if Totti was my role model and not Del Piero.

And that doesn't apply to football only either.

Capello's mind games working
ROME (AP) - J
uventus' 17-1-1 record in the first half of the Serie A season has undoubtedly made an impact in its opponents' minds.

But Juventus coach Fabio Capello is also playing mind games with his own players, most notably club captain Alessandro Del Piero.

Del Piero scored four goals in Juve's last two wins, becoming the team's career scoring leader. He passed Giampiero Boniperti - Juve's star of the 1950s - with a hat trick in an Italian Cup match last week, then scored in a 1-0 win over Reggina on Sunday for his 186th goal in all competitions for Juventus.

His reward? A place on the bench for Wednesday's game at Chievo Verona. Capello plans to start David Trezeguet and Zlatan Ibrahimovic instead.

"You have to pull the right strings to motivate players," Capello said. "There are no untouchables. I tell the guys, 'Accept my decisions and everyone will get their chance."'

Capello has routinely relegated Del Piero to the bench this season and maintains the player will benefit.

"Having played less, he's fresher and can be at his best throughout the second half of the season," Capello said. "He will enter the World Cup in fantastic form."

Brazil midfielder Emerson, who followed Capello from AS Roma to Juventus, knows what the coach is up to.

"Capello works with players' heads, he's a great psychologist," Emerson said.

Even Gianluigi Buffon, often regarded as the world's best goalkeeper, has no assurances.

Buffon recently returned from a four-month shoulder injury layoff and Capello said he will have to work hard to stay above Christian Abbiati. Abbiati filled in well while Buffon was out.

"Gigi knows it's a challenge with Abbiati," Capello said.

I know many of you guys here dislike Capello for treating DP as he does, but there is some truth IMO that Capello brought back the best in DP. Although it is sad to hear the reward DP gets for being able to come back to good form. Perhaps Cap does have somewhat of a good intention towards our captain and DP can lead Italy to glory this year?

Well, we're halfway thru the season and DP already got 12 goals. He's on form like he hasn't been in a long time. This is definately crafting to be one of his best season in recent years.

I can see what Capello's doing. As long as it works, I'm ok with it.

As far as tomorrow's match. Doesn't surprise me. Alex started the last two games. He needs to rest. Too many games not too long apart would kill him.
