Ronaldo who??
For me, Ronaldo is a great player but not the best...he's up there with zidane platini or van basten but not close to pele/maradona/georgie best/cruff yet...
and mind u, brazil is a very attacking team and Ronaldo could easily score goals coz of the supply from the midfield is just damn good..i stil wonder how he can win the world player of the yr 02/03 provided he contributed so little for inter?? if u say by leading ur country to glory and become the top scorer for the tournament could bring u the award then players just have to to do average to make sure they get into the wc squad...they dun have to play with great passions to prevent from injuries/suspensions...
right now, Ronaldo's form is far far away from his brazilian counterpart Ronaldinho..and i am pretty sure Ronaldinho will outshine Ronaldo in next yr wc..even Ale is having a better season than Ronaldo now ...
i dun think Ronaldo is d complete striker..he can;t score from fk..hahaha

just one last comment about ronaldo and his player of the year awards.
i never really enjoyed watching him play that much. That said, he is defintely deserving of every title hes got. his goal average everywher he plays is like something out of the 30s. where most great strikers like van basten, sheva, trez, van nistelroy etc. score a goal every two game, ronaldo scores almost one a game till he got hurt, and more than 50% after that. i would say he is one of the most UNDERRATED players ever.
as for the WC 2002, i was the only one of my friends who felt that ronaldinho or kahn shoulda gotten the awards. every single braz attack (when he was on the team) went thru him, he created all, and i am so glad he is finally getting the recognition as one of the alltime greats now 3 years later.

Yes, but don't forget you're comparing a 31-year old to young guys in thier prime. And Yes, I do agree, right now, DP doesn't compare to Ronaldinho or Zlatan. Go back 10 years ago, only few could be compared to Del Piero. Years from now, a new wave of players will push Dinho and rest out. It's a simple fact of life. In order to succed in football, you gotta leave your mark on football. Sheva has, probably the best Milan forward since Van Basten. Dinho? Certainly left his mark, the best brazilian player of this decade. Zlatan? In a class of his own, great things ahead of him.
It doesn't make sense to compare the abilities of a player nearing retirement to the abilities of a younger superstar. Do it when they retire. Ask how they impacted football. At the end of the day, it all comes down to this - you'll either be remembered or not.

checked out soccer-europe (good site). just to compare: sheva is an astonishing striker but he score .56 goals per game. ale is also just over .50 which is great for a forward (supporting striker). ronaldo even including years after injury has an average of .82. truly unreal.
anyway: where do all u people figure ale is on the alltime list?
