Why is it unvalid? Mutu never scored more goals than DP, yet I'm pretty sure you want Mutu at juve and you want dp out. Now why is that? Where was Mutu this season? Oh, that's right he got himself banned. Where was DP? That's right, he scored us 13 goals. What has Mutu ever done? Why are you so sure that Mutu will be better than DP in the future?

PS: pathetic one-liners don't get you anywhere. It's easy to just dismiss an argument without answering it.

how about that mutu is younger than del piero and that he has 1/4 the wages how about the fact that that ban saved you 20 million euro and some other more in wages

Wages, wages, wages...Don Bes, what's up with your obsession for wages? We don't know crap about Juve's finances so let's just concentrate on the subject we can actually talk about, ok? :D

Seriously, this debate is leading nowhere but that's been the case for many years already I guess. And DP debate is a good way of killing time.

Don't you have anything to do? Talk about DP.

I can't believe that people are arguing that Mutu is not a talented player. He made a mistake to get himself banned this season, but to say that he did nothing while Del Piero scored 13 goals is a rubbish argument.

Since you asked, Mutu scored more than Alex in 02/03 and was the assist leader in Serie A that season. Sure, we won the title in that season, but that can hardly be solely attributed to Del Piero's contribution. Mutu's contribution to the season earned Parma 5th place in Serie A, which isn't easy to do (as can be seen by this season) even when you have a Gilardino in the team.

I'm not saying that Mutu will brush Alex aside and out of the starting lineup (though it's altogether likely), but to dismiss Mutu because of the past couple of seasons is entirely unfair.

That's the problem Graham. Some of these fans cannot think objectively when it comes to comparing different players and Del Piero in the same discussion. Rather pointless actually.

The only thing I am for is "consistency", ironic i should say that since that's what Del Piero detractors smite him for. But the point is love him or hate him, one ought to measure him to others and others to him in a consistent manner; and that's what makes for an objective evaluation IMO.

we'll see in this weeks fixture then, im pretty sure Mutu will play. Lets see if he can give an average performance (considering he hasnt played an official match in so long).

Del Piero is getting some of his old form back and at the end of the season too, before this it was easy for me to say just sell the guy at the end of the season, now the juve board will probably have faith in him next season. I just hope he delivers, not like the last few years.

the del piero story reminds me of the crusades, people turned them into romantic, heroic stories when in fact they were just pointless wars. same thing going on here with del piero as well
Well, Alessandro Del Piero did make History, helping Juventus win 5 (6?) Scudetti and win a CL (out of four finals played). It is quite probable that he will become our greatest goal-scorer ever, plus he is an icon, a living myth. He has some qualities the likes of Mutu, Ibrahimovic, Miccoli will never have. He just makes a huge difference. It is the rest that seems pointless to me. Therefore Del Piero is worth waging a (verbal) war for. He has been suffering from some media bias for too long, whereas players like Zidane or Totti are more easily praised, and less often criticized even when they are off form. I am not saying that Del Piero has been great @ every single match he played, but he still remains the most decisive player this season. No one can take that away from him.
If he is transferred to another club, I suggest that you watch the Tiffosi's reaction. Some bloody rampage may well be on the way.

Stats do not tell the whole story.

What about this stat - DP has been subbed the most in Serie A this season (or he's in the top 2 - I can't remember). What does that suggest?

It suggests he hasn't played that great.

dp wont go anywhere at the end of the season, mark my words, the board would not risk losing him as the ffew fans that turn up at the matches will probably disappear.

as for mutu v dp, prior to mutus suspension he was playing crap but at parma he was amzing. but i dnt think he will take dp's place cuz i dnt think he will be here next season. juve need cash, so hows this for an idea u buy a player work 20mill euros for free and then sell him and raise some cash for the club, 100% profit. sound familiar?
