So I guess Totti got called up because of his perfect form and his great ability to score with the azzurri's shirt, not to talk about his fair play and the wonderful image of Italy he shows the world

btw, I'm happy Alex didn't get called up for this match, at least he'll rest and will not risk to get injuried.

I feel that Totti is needed by the NT. Even though we all hate him to the core, but he is no doubt a talent and a crossing + free-kick specialist. He can also score goals too. Anyway it is good for Totti to play for us becos he would be banned for 2 games in Serie A anyway

Alex plots Azzurri return Monday 21 March, 2005

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Alessandro Del Piero is confident that he will still be on the plane to the 2006 World Cup despite being axed by Italy.

The Juventus ace, now 30, was yesterday omitted from the squad that will face Scotland on Saturday but the No 10 believes he will return.

"If I continue to play in the manner that I have been recently then I won’t have any problems regarding my spot in the squad," he said.

"I don’t feel as if I’ve been ruled out of the running to be a part of the set-up for Germany 2006."

Marcello Lippi’s decision to ignore his former captain has surprised many given his recent form at the Delle Alpi.

Even boss Fabio Capello, who has substituted him so many times this season, was full of praise after his fine display in the 1-0 win over Reggina.

"Del Piero is improving with every game and, after the goal, we saw the kind of player that earned praise from the world over in his glory days," said the tactician.

"I perhaps got a little carried away with my goal celebration but we were finding it tough to break them down," added Del Piero.

"I thought that Roma would have been able to stop Milan last night but they didn’t and our battle continues."

Del Piero will now spend the next two weeks with his club in preparation for some tough tests.

"We travel to Fiorentina before our Champions’ League tie, we can’t afford to be distracted by Liverpool prior to the Florence trip," he concluded.

I think that Totti has close to no international experience and he highly overrated by the press. When he was asked to lead the team (by Trap) he got either sent off (Corea) or spat on that Danish player (Poulsen?). And in the last years he often faked injuries to dodge friendlies and qualification matches. I find this disrespectful.

Ah, and Totti got banned in Serie A because he acted like the idiot he is. Do we really want to entrust him to take us to victory? I don't.

Yes Italy do need him. No matter how arrogant or how horrid his behaviour is, he is still a talented player. His crosses, dribbling and free-kicks provide a boost in Italy's attack. Moreover, he can score goals, and can play as a playmaker/striker. Italy can live without him, but his absence can be felt by the team. For example, look at Euro 2004. I can say that Italy was eliminated becos of Totti. I still feel that he's an idiot nowadays.

I will definitely not let him play the Captain's role. He would only tarnish ur country's image. I will only make full use of his talent, and let some1 else be the Captain, such as Nesta/Buffon/Zambro. Unfortunately the captain armband goes to the person with the highest number of caps

This is what I really wanted to hear.. :) thank you Don Fabio.

No harm.. Celebrate as you wish.. Although for a moment I afraid you have lost it :D but then again you proved that your mind was still intact with those asotnishing dribblings. :D
We love you...

I won't tke no for an answer I was the 180 goals by the end of the season.. :)

By the way, as Italian, I would like not to feel ashamed by the players that represent my country, thanks.

Not many, at least in the NT:

45 caps, 8 goals.

For example, look at Euro 2004. I can say that Italy was eliminated becos of Totti.
I think we got eliminated because of the poor team spirit of our NT, the fact that almost every player minded his own interests and not the team ones.

Oh, he already suceeded in that, even without the armband...

Unfortunately the captain armband goes to the person with the highest number of caps
That are Cannavaro and Del Piero, fortunately..

I think that the NT has to be the expression of the Nation first of all, it's not use to win with pigs on the pitch (not that that kind of players have the right mentality to actually win something). The players that wear an Azzurri shirt have to be an example in every way, not only the agonistic one.
The day Totti will grow a bit of brain in his head, I will be happy to see him on the pitch with the others, for the time being let's try with Cassano that, at least with the NT, never caused problems.

I liked it so much that I had to tape it. Unfortunately the match was showed again at 5 am of Sunday, but I got up anyway, it was worth it!:D

About Totti..
He is a very talented player.. One of Italys most talented players thats for sure.. But his behaviour is a killer...
Just look at Euro 2004. When he played he didn't play well. Then he got suspensed for his behaviour. Italy lost an attacking player. Del Piero played in his role. Italy was magnificent against Sweden until Trap interfered. Plus Zlatan had to score a memrable goal.
Would I welcome Totti in Juvetus?
As a talent I would not refuse him, but behaviour is a must. He is not a deffending midfielder like tacchi or a deffender like motero that gets envolved with harsh plays that would justify his susspenions and behaviour. He is an attacker/playmaker. Sorry but I am happy without him.
He should not carry a captain band, because he is not a role model.
Look at Del Piero, he is a moral role model. Even when talking to the press, he is very polite and well mannared. He never talks about anyone badly. I remember once Juve lost a game maybe 3 years ago that was due to refs bad calls during an interview he was very calm and when he was asked about the refs calls he said "I am not a ref, I am a player.. I don't know if I was at th refs position what would I have done". Then he added "the ref, weather, oppanent team and fans, pitch, injuries ..etc are all factors in the game of football, a great team can always come up against those and win"

He said something like that.. can't remember the exact words it was few years back.

What a man.. what a captain!!! If it was Totti he would have sweared on the ref and the oponnent plus would have called them names....

Del Piero always speaks good about his previous partners and coaches, trap, Ancelotti and Lippi. Plus never speaks badly about his current mates.

He is a role model. We should all learn from him.

I think Del Piero is more a leader than Totti ever will be!

Surely Totti is a great player, but IMO he is no Champion like Alex.

IMO in the last years Totti was favoured by the national coaches (if it was ok or not i don't know) but when he was asked to carry the italian team he sucked! When he is not playing well, he acts like a arshole and begans to do shit to other players.

IMO the national team can do without him and Del Piero would act perfect as leader.

but its not up to us to decide this.

Lippi could be doing us a favour by leaving DP out of the squad to face Scotland. I'm pretty sure Italy will manage without him and the last thing we need is an injury to Alex who is playing the best football he's played in a while.

Italy has Toni, Esposito, Montella, Cassano + Gilardino. Now that Lippi has finally realised that these players actually existed, I'm sure Italy will have a lot of chances in scoring. The day when Totti annouced that he would retire from International football, I'm pleased. But too bad he wants to come back........

Not many, at least in the NT:

o come on, u don't want him to be another Inzaghi rite? :) At least his form can contribute to the team.

This 1 I also have to agree with. The players r playing aimlessly on the pitch. I dunno wad Trap was thinking back den. I still think this and the suspension of Totti contribute to Italy's crashing out of the Euro 2004.

I can't imagine myself seeing him wearing the captain's armband of Italy.....
