“I’ve been in touch with him as we have been friends for a long time, but we didn’t discuss River Plate,” stated the centre-forward.

“I saw his interview in which he said he admired South American football, but we didn’t talk about that. He has my number and he can call me whenever he wants if he has any questions about the club.
“Given that I know him, I can say that his objectives are the same as what ours are over here, but we shouldn’t live with illusions...”

Juventus idol Alessandro Del Piero's prospective switch to Argentine giants River Plate could be a step closer to becoming reality.

Tuttosport report that the club known as Los Millonarios have drawn up a contract which could see the 37-year-old rake in €1.5m a season.

Del Piero is said to have asked for 72 hours to mull over the deal, partly because his preference is a move to Major League Soccer.

He had previously been linked with MLS side Montreal Impact – where fellow Italians Marco Di Vaio, Bernardo Corradi and Matteo Ferrari ply their trade – but the Canadian club's owner Joey Saputo later denied any interest.

A move to the Estadio Monumental would reunite Del Piero with David Trezeguet, with whom he forged a devastatingly effective partnership in their time together at Juve.

Pinturicchio bade the Bianconeri fans an emotional farewell on the final day of the season after 19 years of service in Turin.
