By being a 'problem', he probably means that there will be minimal support from fans and members of the board if Del Piero is dropped. Being the clubs greatest ever player, he's right, if any match is lost without the captain on the field then people will give him a lot of criticism for not starting him.

Oh give me a break, he benched him a lot, not to mention that Ale was injured till December. Ciro talked like a total loser in this interview, blame it all on the players while it's clear that he sucks as a coach. DP was one of our best players last season (it's hard to say best about that season, but you know, less bad), clearly not our problem. What a stupid excuse by Ciro.
But yes, every player wants to play. Every player must want to play. The problem exactly occurs when a player doesn't want to play. Ciro benched Ale many times, it must have been hard for him because fans always wanted him to start the games but you didn't say that. You said Ale didn't allow getting benched which is wrong and unfair. You need to be careful while choosing a set of words.
It was clear. It wasn't easy for Ciro to bench Ale, it was a problem according to what he said. It might be a problem when fans are not approved of your decision but in no way would I accept that Ale has a word into arranging the first eleven. This is what you imply by saying that he didn't allow Ciro to bench him.
Why didn't Ciro mention it then? He went that far to claim that Ale was a problem and that he always wanted to play, why didn't he say that? Why did have to give hints instead of being more clear? You wouldn't have had to read much into what he said then. I see his statement as it is. Benching Ale was a problem for him, okay, that is right but what you say is wrong and unfair.

Ale started the match and scored a wonderful goal. He got subbed by Manninger on the 84 mintue (1-1 situation) after we lost Gigi.
That was Ciro's last Serie a match as Juve coach.
So, for conclusion: 9 Serie a matches- in 2 of them Ale didn't play at all. He started another three (one of them because Ciro had no other players, we played fucking Paolucci as a starter). In the first one we won vs. Inter, in the last one He scored and we lost vs. Roma. In the 4 matches rest he played as a subbed, 117 mintues combined- 29.25 mintues per match.
2- didn't play at all, 4- as a sub (29.25 mintues per match), 3- as a starter (90 mintues vs Chievo, 84 vs. Roma and a goal, 70 vs. Inter and a win).
BTW, on his last match as Juve coach, we lost 2-1 vs. Inter in the Coppa Italia, Ale didn't play. On the previous stage we won Napoli 3-0, Ale played and scored a brace.
