Dp's technical abilities are clearly well above most of of our other offensive players. Especially when it comes to shot technique and free kicks. However, his physical decline has been more pronounced over this last year. I would much rather aim for a more fluid Juve, which as others have written, means using Diego, not DP. Still...such was the slothfulness of our play last season, and with many of those affected by Sloth still in the squad, I would happily keep DP in the bench, giving him regular second half appearances, to keep Diego fresh and as unscathed as possible. for it is Diego who is the key to our success in attack now. It will be him and Krasic if the serb arrives.

Its blindness to see DP as not good enough for our squad. He still has moments of true class...they are just too few and far between now, and diminished in their potency by his fragile physical state, to warrant starting games.

It causes a smile to find people giving me negative rep, but remaining silent when a signature beckons...Especially silly, when it was for a post, without insult, slur, injury, and totally focused on the club this forum has at its heart, allegedly!

Not necessarily, I mean, most of the ones that played badly had bad form or questionable tactical placement, but in Del Piero's case it was pace that failed him, I think that's the main difference, once you lose a minimum amount of pace it's tough to get over opponents and keep possession of the ball.
Disagree. He maybe losing some pace, but he's still great in maintaining possession and going through players. Example:

Anyway, let's agree to disagree. I don't think Del Piero has been anything particularly special outside of a few goals the last 3 years but that's the last thing I'll say on this subject, some people are not mature enough to handle this without -repping me and calling names.
In the past 4 years Del Piero has been THE MOST INFLUENTIAL player for Juventus, that is even when you count Buffon into the equation.

He was the main reason we easily returned to Serie A from Serie B. He was the main reason we got the CL from the first season. He was the main reason we finished 2nd in the second season. And his absence in the first half of the season may have been one of the main reasons we screwed up so bad last season because he is always the one that bails us out of trouble CONSISTENTLY. So if this is NOT special for you, nothing will be unfortunately. Players like Messi, C. Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic..etc don't have the character nor influence on the team as a whole to what Del Piero has done in the past 4 years. Adding to a winning team is something, but bringing life back to a team that has been shot in the head 10 times is a totally different ball game. It requires an extraordinary legendary status, skill and influence to do so. He literally carried us on his shoulder and it was so clear when he was away for the first half of the season. Some may argue that if Del Piero wasn't injured last season we wouldn't have sucked so bad. Because in every season when the ship turns south Del Piero is there to win a couple of games in a raw to get us back. But last year we were well at the bottom when he returned, plus coaches like Zac and Ciro didn't help either.

I agree with everything except the last season's part. We were actually doing ok until that Bordeaux match. Del Piero was back by then but Ferrara screwed up.

True DP was back, but he was so lacking match fitness. You can't expect him to play @ 100% from the first match. Even a player like Del Piero cannot do that, not after a 4 months pause.

:agree:...he was all that you said in that big paragraph of yours zaf + can be in this season too if he will be let to play. This "battle" for the 2nd striker/trequartista spot will do him so good, i just feel it. I know that he can't carry in serie a + europa league + coppa but that's why we have diego for.

Very true. Every season we get this. For years we've had so many players who were supposed to out play Del Piero and put him on the bench, but season in and season out Del Piero manages to shine and out perform them all. Yes he might be getting older, but he is like fine wine, the older it gets the better it becomes. Del Piero is a legend and a phenomena, you cannot put regular players rules on him. Such players go by their own standards. I truly believe Del Piero has more to offer and I am sure of it.
