But the players Juve have at their disposal are more suited for a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-1-1. Basically any tactical setup that will give Diego the chance to play behind the attacker. Where does DP fit in?
That's what I was trying to say mate. He probably doesn't fit or Ferrara isn't convinced yet how or when to play him because he has a different current plan/formation and tactics.

I only think that if he isn't playing it has absolutely nothing to do with "long term thinking"

But the season is basically over, Rab. We might as well look to the future now.

We all love Del Piero but I'd rather see Giovinco get time right now.
It's still not over man. We can still clinch it if we find our right mentality and attitude.

I want Giovinco too. But I want all Giovinco-Del Piero and Diego together in the same lineup. Specially now that Mauro is injured I see no reason why these 3 can't play. Ciro is making it look impossible because of his defensive mentality.

But they probably can't all play in the same formation. Seba and Alex both love to hover around the left side of the pitch when the ball is in our possession. We would need to field Giovinco as a right-winger and Del Piero on the left instead of just giving him his usual support forward role he excels at. Or else Diego would need to be fielded as a right-winger, which probably wouldn't work.

so for 15 years ADP has played with legends like Zizou, Vialli, Ravanelli etc etc (and excelled) and now with the arrival of one player called Diego (who imo still hasn't begun to show why he cost 25M) suddenly he doesn't fit into the preferred formation(s) of the team? What kind of bullfuck is this? Where is the justification? What has Diego done for the whole formation to be built around him.... You build a team around its strengths....who here can say that the engine of the team (Diego & Melo) have been strengths of Juve thus season. Yet Ferrarra persists. Del Piero has been top scorer for Juve for the past few seasons......a few months later, he's old and washed up......wtf........and how can Ale ever regain form if he doesn't play? Our attack looks toothless.....is Ferrara blind or just retarded. He continues with Amauri whose scoring record pales in comparison to Bayern's Butt....WTFF.......I couldn't sleep last night

It's amazing. just because he was injured and didn't play since the start of the season, you already forgot how good is DP, our best player in the last 4 years. where were you after the bernabeu? he was good for us then, he's good for us now, nothing has changed. ciro is the problem. and don't give me the 'he can't play because of the formation'. we change formation every hour, and it's not that we found our best formation without him. we look like shit, as a team, as individuals. we need ale, and he must play to regain his form.

Ciro is making it look impossible because of his defensive mentality.
This opens a whole new question. I'm not 100% sure that we can talk about a defensive mentality. I think it has to do much more with the weak defense we have.
Even though my respect for Ranieri and Ferrara as coaches is close to zero, I think they correctly noticed that our defense needs as much more protection as possible.
You don't like it, I really don't like it, Andy hates it and we have a hard time accepting this, but it's hard not to see how vulnerable and weak our defense is.

Sure, our answer to this is to play more attacking and at least try to score a goal more than what our defense concedes, but even this turned out like flipping a coin and it works in 50% of the matches, while it doesn't work on the other 50% when the opponents stop our attack.

To summarize, I can't be objective here because I too, like all of you, would like to see an exciting Juve with Diego, Giovinco and Del Piero playing. That's why I won't go into what's better, a defensive or attacking Juve.
I will only say that it's preposterous that we're not seriously strengthening the defense. Strong defense will give us tens of new options in midfield and attack. Ranieri tried to improvise with offside traps, deep defense etc and even though it worked some times, some times it didn't. Ferrara proved himself a worse tactician and our defensive problems have been even more exposed.
Both had to sacrifice a lot in attack and midfield at the expense of our defense, while investing in our defense would have made a world of difference.

It's true that poor ball movement, poor off the ball movement etc are too part of the problem but even if we fix those problems we won't be winning any trophies until we fix the back 4.

Yeah I know, I pointed out how ugly our formation looked when we were down to 10 men in the LIVE thread. It had a lot to do with who started the match.
Its sad, really. I mean, we were playing with 8 defensive players and 2 offensive players. That should be considered as a football crime, really. From the beginning of the season we where promised fun and offensive football similar to Barcelona but we ended up playing Catenaccio style. I don't know what Diego thinks but I don't think this was what he had in mind when he signed. And Ciro is such a huge disappointment. Sure he's a newbie but Leonardo is also a newbie but he's playing some really really fun football and I find myself enjoying them play while our style makes me sick.

agree. and about what i said (4DM)- claudio and brazzo are much more DM than attacking midfielders. in football every team has 11 players, 10 of them field players. in our formation, 8 of those players, 8 out of 10 (!!!) make defence, and only two players are naturally attacking players (yesterday- diego and trez). this is sick, this is not football.
