Del Piero dreams of Scudetto
Juventus talisman Alessandro Del Piero says it would be a dream to win another Scudetto and also revealed his nostalgia for the World Cup.
The 34-year-old has struggled with a series of niggling injuries so far this season, playing just seven minutes against Bologna earlier this month.
However, he is fully fit now and could feature in Juventus' hotly anticipated match with a resurgent Napoli at the weekend.
“The game against Sampdoria makes us look to the future with great optimism, the team has given its best and the result rewards the performance, the work and the play against a very difficult opponent,” Del Piero said.
“And now onwards with Napoli. I have celebrated from the stands, but it's too soon. I want to do it on the pitch with my team-mates!
“Moreover, the three points against Sampdoria accompany a very important moment for the club,” Del Piero explained reflecting on the changing of the guard in the boardroom.
Giovanni Cobolli Gigli stepped down earlier this month, and Del Piero had a few words to say on the man who guided Juventus out of the abyss after Calciopoli.
“It has been the week of the handover between Cobolli Gigli and Blanc. In the last shareholders' meeting, Cobolli recalled his first day in Turin, the storm that was engulfing us, and he wanted to thank the players again.
“I would like to send back these words, and give a big thanks to him for what he has done in these difficult times, for having fought at our side to achieve the best results and helping us come out from the most difficult period in our history, and for having personally supported me in the last three years.
“Blanc will succeed him. He has also been with us since Serie B, and he'll know how to inherit Cobolli Gigli's position, uniting the role of President with the others he has held up until now.”
Finally Del Piero gave his thoughts on next summer's World Cup, remembering the goals he scored in 2006.
Asked to recall the best goal of his career, he replied: “The one I am most tied to is that against Germany in the World Cup Semi-Final. I believe it was a very beautiful goal. And then I can't forget the one against Fiorentina many years ago.”
