Summer Village goes crazy for Del Piero

It was a festive Sunday for the thousands of Juventus fans who visited Pinzolo and the epilogue was no less: at the end of the afternoon training session in fact, the stage of the Summer Village hosted captain Alessandro Del Piero driving enthusiasm sky high in what was one of the most awaited moments by the public. Alex thanked all for their affection with which he was greeted and responded cheerfully to the many mistakes asked by Valeria Ciardiello and dj Nanà, some of which serious and others lighter in theme. Speaking of these first days of camp the captain confirmed the common sensation, that is, that the team is highly motivated: «We are working with great enthusiasm, even if this is not an easy time seeing the fatigue but after all it is rightly so. These are important days. The coach, the staff and some players are new but everything is going on well and we hope it will continue in this way because we want to win. We hope it will be a great season, better then the last».

After having thanked Diego, who had defined him a football genius, Del Piero said he is happy to be close to home: «The Dolomites are part of me, seeing that I am from Veneto and so I feel they are my own even if we’re on the other side. Here the environment is spectacular, for the view but also for the welcome we receive». Finally, Alex quenched the curiosity of the fans saying that he calls Ferrara mister and not Ciro, “It is only right”, that his favourite cartoons as a child were Goldrake and Holly e Benji and what work he would have liked to do if he hadn’t become a footballer (an electrician). Asked how he passes his free time during the camp, he answered with a joke: «A man of a certain age must rest». The rest of a warrior.

I'd like to post my 1000th over here. :)

I can't believe I've been watching Del Piero (and Juventus) for like 15 years now. :touched:

I find it so amazing how he managed to silence his doubters...from his 'famous' Udine injury in 1998, Euro/World Cup mis-firings/disappointments...to achieving silverware with both club and country.

I remember school playground childish arguments and taunts, I remember more intellectual University campus debates and discussions - alot of opposing fans and football viewers simply had written him off, "Ahh he's finished. Del Piero? Please it's all about Ronaldo [Brazil]."

And while all the fans of these superstars of champagne football watched their Ronaldo's grow overweight, their Beckhams toil in mickey mouse leagues, their supposed legends fading out into the forgotten abyss of 30-something has-beens...

...Del Piero remains, still scoring, still winning, still leading, still inspiring, still recognized, still respected as a World Class forward, captain, free kick specialist. Maybe not as consistent as the past, but his presence is still felt, and he is still admired by all, and performs at the highest level.

I'm proud that he didn't end up being shipped off to some minnow club on a free transfer, to be forgotten, and categorized into the "whatever happened to...?" player. He sometimes voiced his dream of playing in England - after friendlies in Newcastle, or Manchester United.

I hope, that when he does retire, it will be a graceful one. Whether or not he sees another Scudetto or CL cup...he is still one of the greatest ever to grace the Bianconeri colors. :touched:
