To me, not picking Del Piero is not quite as shocking as Cassano not being selected. He is by and far the best of the Azzurri forwwards at this point in time, yet Lippi persists with mediocirty in the shape of Quag and Pepe, while still affording opportunities to the injury prone and out of form Luca Toni.

Quite ludicrous really. The only decent forwards in there are Rossi and Gila.

we all know that dp is gonna retire in 2,3 years but for god/allah's sake use the man while you still have him. He plays all those decent young strikers and leaves the world class at home. I simply cannot understand what he is thinking..they have a close relation, they are like father and son and look what he does with dp (and i mean from the time lippi took over)..

Actually Inzaghi has set the world on fire in last months, while DP has been pretty much nothing better than all named strikers in the last months. If anyone should complain about not getting called up, it's Inzaghi. I would take Rossi, Iaquinta, Inzaghi and maybe Cassano ahead of Del Piero, so he would make it in my list, but it's not like Lippi left out Gilardino of 2003/04 or smth. Deal with it.

look at the list...dp in an average mood is better than half of the strikers that lippi called up.

I am happy DP is not wasting his time and can rest over the summer. I would not be surprised if Ale does not get the call for the WC though because he has not played a big part recently and then Lippi might say "the players who qualified us to the tournament are the ones who will go"

With Cassano missing out on the confederations cup though I think that he defn will not go to the WC. Lippi probably dislikes him even though he says it is nothing personal it is clear that it is when he calls such shitty strikers to the confed cup over Cassano. I mean that tournament is the perfect place to test Cassano .. if he does not do it there he will not do it in world cup qualifiers or the friendlies leading up to the WC where he will try to sort out his starting 11.

I don't think the current team has enough spark to make a serious bid on the trophy next year.

I dont see the problem here. You think DP really wanted to play in it. Its his vacation time. Last summer he had the Euros and next year he is hoping on the WC. No need to play year around every year in tournaments like this you rest bc he has to be fresh to get on the wc squad. He isnt a shoe in anymore and he knows that and Lippi wants him to play well so he can call him up. No reason to get your panties in a wad here guys let him relax one summer. I honestly think he would rather be at home resting with his Family and looking to South Africa!

Conf. Cup.

I'm serious. Probably follow one of their matches whenever I'm free in the summer and I have nothing to do.

Not selecting Del Piero and picking the likes of Foggia, Pellissier, Mascara, Toni, Gila, Rossi etc isn't entertaining at all.

You need names, you need show, Del Piero not being called isn't the same.
He picked a couple of certainties and then he made a longer list with a lot of people who won't play the Confederations Cup, but who will play a friendly before the Cup.

No, but he did make an assist to Trez with overhead, against Milan. The greatest assist in football history IMO, I personally haven't seen a more spectacular one...
