I don't remember Di Natale being criticized nor Cassano. It's always Alex and only Del Piero.
Don't be such a baby, Rab :D.

Nah, Cassano was criticised a bit here in Italy and TBH I disagreed. Cassano had a very decent game. What was forgotten in the press though is how Del Piero was playing well in the first half. The reason why is probably the fact Alex has choked a lot for Italy and the second half is always what people remember best after a draw.

What people aren't getting is that, Alex in his game vs Romania he wasn't really getting passes. All what I saw and remember where crosses to Luca toni from right and left. This is one of the reasons he didn't show up, specially in the 2nd half.
You've said it, they didn't play thru the middle. And its no surprise that Alex without the ball can't be the player he is. He is not a target-man. He needs the ball to create chances for himself and others. Problem is, everyone knows that, yet Donadoni seems to think crosses to Toni is the sollution for everything. Could work, IF Toni was in form.

C'mon Andries, you play football and you know what a space each player has when his opponent is playing 1 man down. It was just normal for Cassano to play above average.

But the man was spot on when he said that had Del Piero played the same way Cassano did vs France, they would all be criticizing him by now.

I agree completely. The fact that there was not a huge difference in performance between Del Piero vs 11 players and Cassano vs 10 players should mean Del Piero was better. Its simply because being up a man gives a player more time on the ball, much more space, more opportunities to exploit the oppositions lack of cover by either dribbling or making a simple pass, (which may have been a difficult pass if the other team had another player to mark the player who would be receiving the pass.) It's really quite obvious that with more space and time you should be able to have a better game, and Cassano was not horrible or anything but he really did not impact the game to a great extent, he just won a ton of freekicks in average positions.
