Italy boss Roberto Donadoni has all but confirmed that he will be selecting Alessandro Del Piero for Euro 2008.

The Golden Boy’ had looked like a huge doubt for this summer’s Euros, having not played for his country for almost eight months. There were also fears that Del Piero did not fit in with Donadoni’s 4-3-3 tactical system.

However the 33-year-old has been in simply stunning form in recent months, and has bagged seven goals in his last four matches to take him up to second in the Capocannoniere charts.

These displays have led to a campaign from the almost the entire nation that Del Piero be taken to Austria and Switzerland.

“A few months ago I wasn’t sure, but now I would choose him for the plane,” Donadoni said in La Repubblica.

“The facts speak for themselves.

“But I will only talk about selections on the fixed date. It seems that lots of players have decided to give me the problem of too many options.

“All that I am sure of is that with Del Piero and everyone else my choices are my own and there will be no controversy. We are all civilised people.”

With these comments it thus seems inevitable that Del Piero will be playing at Euro 2008
