Alex regrets Sardinian setback

Alessandro Del Piero has expressed his disappointment at Juventus’ draw with Cagliari, while Claudio Ranieri defends his captain’s performance.

The Old Lady missed a golden opportunity to claw back Roma’s second-place cushion when they were held 1-1 at home by bottom side Cagliari.

We are disappointed to have not taken three points from a home game, even if the result was a fair reflection on what happened in the pitch,” Del Piero sighed.

The fact is, Cagliari played excellently and tried to win the game to the end. They could have stolen it despite our dominance and chances in the first half.

Goalkeeper Emanuele Belardi – who is deputising for the injured Gigi Buffon – also expressed some relief that the Isolani didn’t steal all three points.

If we had scored early maybe it would have gone differently,” he said wistfully.

We were a bit soft, slow and predictable. Near the end we went forward too much leaving the defence open and we could even have lost.

Del Piero has come in for some stinging criticism after failing to make his mark, but Coach Ranieri doesn’t believe it is fair to point the finger at Pinturricchio.

Alessandro did what he could,” Ranieri insisted. “We had to give him some playable balls.

Without Cristiano Zanetti, I asked the captain to be our point of reference from midfield and that was what he tried to do.”

Juve must now regroup for their vital battle against high-flying Udinese at the Stadio Friuli next weekend.

The Globe and Mail
Italy, who have again overlooked Alessandro Del Piero, and Portugal have little room to experiment in Wednesday's friendly in Switzerland after both naming 20-man squads.

It now looks highly likely the world champions will go to Euro 2008 without Del Piero. A lacklustre showing in September's 0-0 draw with France led to the Juventus striker being axed by coach Roberto Donadoni, who has stuck to his guns despite some superb club displays from the 33-year-old forward in January.

Del Piero And Cassano Should Not Feel Left Out - Donadoni

Italy coach Roberto Donadoni talked about the situations of Alessandro Del Piero and Antonio Cassano, who have both been left out of the squad for the friendly against Portugal.

zoom - galleria From the Azzurri's training camp at Coverciano, Italy coach Roberto Donadoni confirmed that his decision to leave out Alessandro Del Piero and Antonio Cassano does not mean they are permanently no longer part of his plans.

Two days before the friendly against Portugal, Donadoni explained his decision two leave out these two big names, who have been performing quite well recently, starting from the Juventus captain.

"Scoring seven goals is not enough to make a player indispensable," the coach explained. "Del Piero knows very well what the situation is. Four months ahead of the European championships, no one needs to feel excluded."

It's a different matter for Cassano, who still needs to improve his infamously hot-tempered attitude, according to Donadoni.

"I think Cassano is the player I know best," the former Livorno coach said. "He needs to be stimulated, and these stimulations are not the call-ups. He needs to improve certain aspects of his character, but more importantly he needs to give consistency to his performances. For example, last Sunday he was a little too exuberant."

surely its enough to pick him, and i swear he has 12 goals in all competitions this season?!

Thats really one weird decision, leaving both Ale and Iaquinta out. If Donadoni thinks that everything in football is by goals according to what he stated, then I officially know football more than this retarded asshole.

by the way, semioli is out of the squad (injured) so there is one more spot. who knows...
If I'm not mistaken, you're allowed to have 23 players on a team, and with this injury, he only has 19.
This man should just shut the fuck up.

Off-topic: why isn't Iaquinta called up?
Because Palladino is so much better. :melayyanandmessi:

So I guess he's just been checking the scores.

Donadoni said that he didn't call dp and cassano because the match against portugal (beside the one againt spain in march) is it's last chance to test new guys like borriello (he said that he's aware of il principe's qualities and it's not important to call him for this friendly).

I think that don decided to ignore dp as long as he's the coach, unless alex performances will be absolutely amazing (for me, and anyone else, his last performances were amazing, but obviously the idiot wants more) .i mean, he doesn't like del piero, and believe that he can make it without him.
but if ale will be as good as he was over the last two months don won't be able to ignore him anymore. first of all, it's alex, italia's superstar, and even when he's in a bad shape and doesn't get call, they making a big deal out of that (and when i say big deal, i mean the titles looks like that: Azzuri- di natale and quagliarella in, Del piero out). So, you can imagine the hell donadoni will go through if he won't call alex (in great shape) for the euro and italy will fail to qualify from the group stage. second of all, alex is really good, and in professional view only, he must get call.

let's forget about portugal, and hope alex will continue to astonish us in the next 4 months. the important thing is only the Euro.

as for palla- too bad don will play him in the right wing like ranieri.

(by the way, of course, donadoni is stronzo).

Forza Del Piero! Forza juve!

You know what.....fuck donadoni and screw his euro...for such a great player and a person like Alex he shouldn't give a damn for his call or not, I know he wants that call more than anyone and he deserve it more than half of the players in the squad.

But you can't convince a prick, can you?

Now, all what we want is Alex lifting the Champions League trophy next year in Rome and winning his 8th Scud.
