Alex regrets Sardinian setback
Alessandro Del Piero has expressed his disappointment at Juventus’ draw with Cagliari, while Claudio Ranieri defends his captain’s performance.
The Old Lady missed a golden opportunity to claw back Roma’s second-place cushion when they were held 1-1 at home by bottom side Cagliari.
“We are disappointed to have not taken three points from a home game, even if the result was a fair reflection on what happened in the pitch,” Del Piero sighed.
“The fact is, Cagliari played excellently and tried to win the game to the end. They could have stolen it despite our dominance and chances in the first half.”
Goalkeeper Emanuele Belardi – who is deputising for the injured Gigi Buffon – also expressed some relief that the Isolani didn’t steal all three points.
“If we had scored early maybe it would have gone differently,” he said wistfully.
“We were a bit soft, slow and predictable. Near the end we went forward too much leaving the defence open and we could even have lost.”
Del Piero has come in for some stinging criticism after failing to make his mark, but Coach Ranieri doesn’t believe it is fair to point the finger at Pinturricchio.
“Alessandro did what he could,” Ranieri insisted. “We had to give him some playable balls.
“Without Cristiano Zanetti, I asked the captain to be our point of reference from midfield and that was what he tried to do.”
Juve must now regroup for their vital battle against high-flying Udinese at the Stadio Friuli next weekend.

Donadoni said that he didn't call dp and cassano because the match against portugal (beside the one againt spain in march) is it's last chance to test new guys like borriello (he said that he's aware of il principe's qualities and it's not important to call him for this friendly).
