Del Piero's Inter anticipation Saturday 3 November

Alessandro Del Piero knows Juventus have been waiting for their Inter showdown for a long time. “This is a very special game.”

Sunday night will see the two titans go head-to-head in Serie A for the first time since the Calciopoli scandal saw the Bianconeri demoted to Serie B in the summer of 2006.

“This is a game that in the past has always represented something special. This year it is even more so for different reasons, but we remain in any case tied to the traditions that these two great clubs have.”

Not only is it a bitter grudge match like few others in Italian football, but the clash is also a Scudetto battle.

“It represents a great deal and is also an important test for our present. Clearly in the last few years, not just the last couple, there has been a very strong rivalry with Inter in all respects,” continued the Juve captain.

“I think the pressure and the aura around this tie can be represented by that too. It will be a fiery encounter on Sunday, but I believe it will be with the right type of sporting aggression and determination.”

Fireworks are expected, especially as so many players are facing their former clubs. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira take on Juve after quitting last year, while Cristiano Zanetti is an ex-Inter midfielder.

Due to the Calciopoli scandal and their positions in the table currently, Juventus perhaps for the first time begin the Derby d’Italia as the underdogs.

“Our pride is there for all to see,” assured Del Piero. “In part it is true, considering what happened in the recent past, but these games have a special atmosphere and are practically derbies for us and the fans. Therefore anything can happen.”

Actually Rihan, if you look closely, we're not getting many fouls, fouls where players can take a freekick. I cant even remmber when was the last time we were awarded one foul where Ale took it in last couple of games if not more.

Are you expecting the FIGC to award us fouls after the FK show Del Piero put against Udinese?

This only means that Del Piero will most probably start.

Ranieri: “It'll be Del Piero's game”

The great moment is approaching. Juventus vs. Inter is almost upon us and the wait is nearly over. Words are about to leave the way to facts. The last words inevitably came from the two Managers. Ranieri met the press at the Principi di Piemonte Hotel, where the team are staying, just before setting off towards the Olimpico for the last training session.

It's the Manager's first Juventus-Inter but the subject is definitely not a novelty: “The press and the fans have been talking about this match since the summer camp in Pinzolo. It won't be a grudge match, just a good one, a classic of Italian football. Some have said that it won't be an entertaining game, with the teams staying guarded, but I don't think so. I expect it to be a fast, riveting and tactical game. Will it be dangerous to play on the attack? I don't think so and I certainly won't be the one stopping my talented players from going forward”.

It'll be a special match, due to everything that has happened in the last two years, but in the end, as always, it'll only count for the League standings. Inter Milan arrive in Turin as League leaders ready to increase their lead. This is how Ranieri views the situation: “We face the title favourites; only they can lose the title, so we need to stop them. We cannot be satisfied with a draw and what makes a team great is if they always go for the win. So for once I think that the whole of Italy, apart from Inter Milan fans, will be rooting for us. In any case, my main hope is that we can get to the return match with the same point gap as now”.

All that happened in the last two years is certainly still in the minds of the players who stayed on at Juventus after the sensational events of summer 2006: in the minds of those who won the title on the pitch and then saw it stripped and given to the Nerazzurri themselves. The Manager counts a lot on their desire to get revenge: “The old guard's contribution will be decisive. I expect a lot from the whole team, but particularly from Del Piero. I'm convinced this will be his game. Camoranesi? He's feeling better but he still can't play 90 minutes, I have to decide whether to put him on from the start or during the match. Nedved? He has a little problem, we'll see between this evening and tomorrow if he can make it”.

God lets hope so. The only thing better than beating Inter is for it to be by Ale's goals. Good, old fashioned, loyal Italian player beats cheating, scheming, false-title-celebrating Argentinians.

forza Juve!

Regarding that bit about this being Del Piero's game...I believe what was actually said was that Ranieri sought out Del Piero's input for the preparations for this weekend because he is familiar with the intricacies of an Inter-Juve match. If I am not mistaken he never mentioned anything about him playing, I suspect something was lost in translation.

Not that I wouldn't like to see him start, especially if Iaquinta isn't fit.
