Del Piero: I Will Play For No One But Juventus :pint:

Alessandro Del Piero has revealed that despite his long-drawn out contract negotiations, he never thought about leaving Juventus.

The Golden Boy finally signed a new deal with the Bianconeri on Monday night, after months of fractious negotiations.

At one point it seemed as if Del Piero may even be forced to leave the club and the likes of Milan, Brescia, Palermo and even Queens Park Rangers were linked with a transfer.

“I never thought about leaving. It is an option that never existed in my mind,” revealed the 32-year-old.

“I always wanted to stay and I wanted everyone to understand my intentions. This is not the last contract of my career.

“When you discuss a contract there are always different points of view from both sides and you must also remember that this is a different Juve to the one of five years ago.

“However the fans always showed me their support and our relationship is solid. It is unique.

“The idea that I may move to Milan never existed, just like all the other destinations I was linked to. I see myself with no one else but the Bianconeri.”

Gasperini Looking To Ruin Del Piero Party

Genoa Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is looking forward to Sunday’s clash with Juventus and is hoping to spoil Alessandro Del Piero’s first game since signing his new contract.

Del Piero finally put pen to paper on a new deal with the Bianconeri on Tuesday night after months of fractious negotiations with the club.

The Golden Boy is expected to partner David Trezeguet up-front during Sunday evening’s match with Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico.

“Del Piero wants to celebrate with a goal? Well we are hoping to spoil the party,” declared Gasperini. “As for Trezeguet I have trust in my defenders to silence him too.

“The match on Sunday is an important game for us, above all because the last time we played against one of the big teams, things did not go too well.”

Genoa opened up their Serie A campaign with a disappointing 3-0 defeat to European Champions Milan. However things have improved considerably since then and the Rossoblu have gone the last six games unbeaten, and currently sit in fifth place in the league.

“Since the Milan game, we have improved and now will be the test to see by how much,” Gasperini added.

“We will make a few adjustments for the game due to our opponents but we will not change our own style too much and we will continue to be offensive.”

Ex-Fiorentina tactician and fierce Juventus critic Aldo Agroppi has criticised the Bianconeri’s decision to extend Alessandro Del Piero’s contract.

After a month of fierce speculation, the talismanic captain penned a two-year extension to his current deal on Tuesday.

Most experts agree that the renewal of vows was mutually beneficial after a happy 14-year marriage, but Agroppi is more cynical.

“He’s already losing his touch, imagine how he’ll be playing by 2010,” the outspoken TV pundit stated.

“I would never have offered Del Piero that kind of contract. It doesn’t make sense as Claudio Ranieri leaves him out.

“He isn’t irreplaceable anymore, especially when you consider that Vincenzo Iaquinta and Raffaele Palladino are often selected above him,” he continued.

“The truth is that the club is under the control of the fans who would have revolted if they had let him leave. He’s a good player, but he isn’t a champion these days.”

Agroppi's comments will be taken with a pinch of salt across the peninsula as he has openly admitted his dislike for Juventus and is amongst the side's sternest critics.
