Sacchi Praises Del Piero

For Euro 96, former Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi called up Alex Del Piero when he was already something more than a promising youngster, but decided to play him out of position on the wing in his preferred 4-4-2 system, in order to keep Gianfranco Zola in the side.

The Juventus man did not take it well, and was left out of the following two matches of the tournament by Sacchi after starting the first game. However, with the striker going through tough times at the moment for both club and country, the highly regarded coach defended 'Pinturicchio'.

"Del Piero is a serious person, it seems unnecessary and out of place to discuss his professionalism and qualities," he explained, "he's a real pro, without being pretentious or arrogant. He's a good example."

However, Sacchi does understand why some of his colleagues opt to leave him on the bench at times: "At a certain age, while your physical condition may remain good, the speed and reflexes diminish, so it's understandable to use him part-time or in a different position, outside the so-called 'danger zone'.

"But clearly, the player has to accept it and collaborate for this to be possible."

The bolded part is something all of us know and agree on.
You should have highlighted the last 5 sentences because that's what some people still don't understand, or don't want to understand.

Iaquinta commenting on Del Piero's contract issue.

During the Azzurri training he was asked about Del Piero and here is what Iaquinta said.

"Although Del Piero is facing difficulties now with his contract but what I can tell everyone about Del Piero is that he's very calm and you can always see a smile on his face... I really hope all this can be solved soon, Juventus needs someone like Alessandro Del Piero, and not only Juventus but also the fans. He's Juventus captain after-all"
