It is a tough time for Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero who believes his side should have beaten Fiorentina and misses out on the Azzurri call.

The Old Lady continued their unbeaten run against the Viola with a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, but they so nearly took all three points as a late Adrian Mutu penalty denied them.

“I have some regrets as we only got a draw when we were so close to maximum points,” he admitted on his personal website.

“Maybe we were helped by the fact that Fiorentina had played a tough UEFA game in midweek, but once we were ahead we failed to deliver the knockout blow.”

As well as facing an unclear future at club level as contract negotiations with Juve continue to stall, Del Piero’s future in the national side is up in the air.

Having issued Donadoni with an ultimatum that he would no longer play in the midfield, Alex has been dropped for the upcoming friendly with South Africa and Euro 2008 qualifier against Georgia.

I’m disappointed to not be a part of the Azzurri squad for the game against Georgia,” he admitted. “But good luck to Italy.”

And this taxes thing is a big problem and many board members of Italian teams complained about it. Italian teams pay 50% taxes while Spanish teams pay 20% taxes.
In order Buffon to earn 5m eur net, Juve has to pay 7.5m eur.
In order Buffon to earn 5m eur net, Barcelona has to pay 6m eur.

So, Barcelona can pay Buffon 6.2m eur net and they will pay an amount of 7.4m eur including the taxes.

This way Buffon earns more and Barcelona pays less. That is why Spanish teams have an advantage over Italian teams.
If Italian clubs pay 50% taxes, that for a 5 mil € salary that would be 7.5 mil € in total, not 10?
he made me confuse too :D

Here`s what channel 4 said about Del Piero and his contract.

Blog: Thanks & goodbye?

As the Alex Del Piero contract saga rumbles on, Antonio Labbate warns the No 10 to accept Juventus’ offer or face the consequences

It would be easy for Juventus to hand Alessandro Del Piero a new contract. After all, he’s a club legend, a loyal servant, a professional who has seen all the highs and lows imaginable in Turin since his 1993 switch from Padova. However, the club need to do what is right for their own future and Alex arguably belongs to the past.

I’m not saying that Juventus must show the No 10 the door at all costs and they are evidently willing to keep him – but, quite rightly, only on their own terms. The financial implications of Calciopoli are still being counted and Del Piero, who will turn 33 in November, can’t honestly expect the club to adhere to his reported salary demands of around £3.2m a season.

To be blunt, Del Piero is not worth that figure if we are assessing him purely on his ability as a footballer. He was probably the world’s best player during 1997-98, but you watch him today and he’s no longer that fantasista who seemed destined to become the Roberto Baggio of the 21st Century. He’s still a good player, but can he really be expected to make the difference in a body which can no longer consistently cope with what his feet want him to do?

Perhaps we expect too much of Del Piero, but the fact is that there have been concerns over his ability for some years now. While Alex will always have a special place in the hearts of the Juventus fans, he won’t always have a place in their team. Fabio Capello clearly had issues with him during his Turin stint, while Italy’s 2006 World Cup triumph was hardly based around ADP. He’s also not indispensable for either Claudio Ranieri or Roberto Donadoni these days seeing as both dropped him yesterday.

Del Piero needs to realise that his role at Juventus is changing and the club’s present contract offer is highlighting that reality. While Pinturrichio is right to feel that he should be rewarded for all that he’s done on his way to becoming a recognised flag-bearer for La Vecchia Signora, especially after demotion, he can’t live off his reputation alone in a career hampered by that knee injury in Udine nine years ago.

At the end of the day, Juventus are bigger than Alessandro Del Piero and always will be. They are also a club who have proved in the past that making unpopular decisions can sometimes pay. Del Piero should know that more than most, seeing as he really got his chance at Juve when they sold Baggio in 1995 due to a contract dispute. They said thank you and goodbye then, they seem prepared to do the same again if necessary…
Whilst there may be some truth in what this reporter says, He is being unreasonable. Would he accept a 30% wage cut? I bet he wouldn't, but that's what the BoD want Alex to do, even though he's already had two previous cuts. It is unreasonable and there is no way the board would accept being treated that way themselves. They have to start being reasonable and start negotiating properly. We need this contract settled ASAP, so that Alex can concentrate on playing again.

Whatever you're passing through, we'll always stick with you, Captain :star:
:agree: Come on you BoDs! Stump up! (Pardon the pun! )

Obviously the dispute over il capitano's contract has two sides. On the one hand its easy to sit on the outside as Juventini & say that the board & various journalists wouldn't volunteer for the same paycuts that Ale has been offered. Easy to sit here & say they should stump up the cash, pay the hero what he is wanting to stay. On the other hand, Ale is no longer the focal point of the team, he can no longer single-handedly lead us to glory. The guy cannot play two games a week anymore, which becomes more obvious game after game, even he is starting to look frustrated at the way his body is betraying his brilliant football brain (& feet!). Ale has to realise that he now is just a member of a squad. Yes a great one, yes the leader & often inspiration of it, but no longer the centre of it, no longer the one player its all built around. He should look at what happened to Baggio at the end of his bianconeri days. Not able to accept the newcomer, not able to accomodate a player of immense talent alongside him, he was uncermoniusly bombed out of the club.

Ale is without doubt my favourite player of all time, & personally I hate Secco - he's just plain useless folks! - but there is something larger at stake here. If Ale & his brother press on with their current views in these negotiations then we may all see him dressed in another teams colours like Baggio, something Im sure most true Juventini would find unreal. To lose a part of our clubs history, our link to the glory of 96 which we all hope to return, in Ale's own words "in reality I’m only a small part of the Juventus whole that grows with the passing of the years" He needs to remember those words now & cement his place in our hearts & our history by finally putting his legacy over $ signs like so many other footballers do today. Surely he, more than most, can afford that luxury.

FFS, for the 100 times, it's not like Juventus vs Alex, he's in a war with our current board.

Stop with this silly Juve bigger than Dp, stop turning this into Juventus club vs Ale and get your facts straight ffs.

If you can't argue the Del Piero vs Cobolli, DON'T... but don't put Alex in a situation vs the CLUB as all.
but why is it just cobolli? cobolli is the juventuz chairman, its not like juventus is an elusive mysterious character, fucking hell he controls JUVE so what else is it?

He controls Juve? what do you mean he controls Juve? Not even Moggi was controlling Juve.

Cobolli may be the man in charge, but that doesn't mean that you have the right to put Alessandro Del Piero in a category against the Club as all. Cobolli doesn't represent Juventus. Maybe to you he does, but not to me.

what i don't understand is why they gave Neddy a better deal than Alex but Neddy is older. And it goes without saying that Neddy doesn't sell the kind of merchandise Ale does

I don't really like comparing Pavel's contract to Del Piero's. Both of them deserve the full respect in this club. Pavel wasn't respected in the contracts before that he was offered same now goes with Alex.

like i said before >> pay the man what he's worth, not what he demands, i'm sure the board recognizes that he is a consistent performer and needs to be shown some respect. i think it will all work or out in the end, especially if we took care of camo, trez and gigi this year then ale will be no different.

I don't see that there is any disrespect here.

The club has to be run as a business and so the Board must feel they will get value for money over the next few years from Ale.

I want him to stay and I think he will stay, however the Board are right to push for a good deal for the club.

Just remember that Ale has been paid an incredible amount of money over the years and in return he gave the club a lot.

Neither party owes the other anything.

Zambrotta: Del Piero Will Come Through This Dark Moment

Barcelona defender Gianluca Zambrotta has tipped Alessandro Del Piero to show his quality and recover from his recent poor form.

The Golden Boy has had a disappointing start to the season and has scored just one goal in Serie A, a one-yard tap-in against Cagliari in week two.

Yesterday Del Piero was dropped from the Juventus starting line-up to face Fiorentina, with Vincenzo Iaquinta taking his place.

The 32-year-old was also axed from Roberto Donadoni’s Italy squad to face Georgia and South Africa. This has led many to speculate whether we may be witnessing the beginning of the end for Del Piero at the top level.

“Del Piero? I haven’t heard what is going on but at the same time I think he has enough quality to come through this difficult moment,” said Zambrotta.

“Can you make a comparison between Del Piero and Ronaldinho? Well Ronaldinho also had some difficult moments but he has passed through them and I believe he has no intention of leaving Barcelona.”

Zambrotta is a former club team-mate of Del Piero, having played for Juventus from 1999 to 2006. He left the Bianconeri after the 2006 Calciopoli crisis to join Spanish-giants Barcelona.

look, i dont want to get into a big massive debate about something so silly. my point is that DP, however much i love him, shouldnt be given how much hes asking for. and channel 4 says it perfectly for me:

You know what? looks like you're not understanding one single word i'm saying... and you're arguing just for the sake of it but nothing more.

Anyway, i'm not wasting my time repeating the same crap again and again, stick with Cobolli and i'll stick with Del Piero. very simple.
