Of course it's only one game, but Del Piero was awful. It's as simple as that. Yes, Donadoni's not a good coach and yes, Del Piero was played out of position, but that doesn't change the fact he had a bad game.

And I think he played poorly against Livorno and Cagliari as well.

Yep Del Pieros time in the national team is over.

While Del Piero may have been disappointed to have to watch from the sidelines, it seems that there were no hard feelings.

“At the end of the game he shook my hand,” Di Natale revealed. “He is a true gentleman and a great example for the younger lads.”

i am sorry that he didn't play against Ukraine!

I haven't seen the game against France, but what i heard Del Piero wasn't good, ok i think you can have a bad game, but people always expect a lot from Del Piero! And the things he said (he wants to play for Italy and Juve as starter) didn't help im either because with such statements people expect even more.

I am a hugh admirer of Del Piero but he should sometimes calm down with such commentary because i think he puts even more pressure on himself...

but i am sure he will be part of italian squad again and help them to win games..

I've heard that 1000 times now, with yours it's 1001 and yet his days aren't over with the NT. sorry to disappoint you lil zlatany.

Anyway, the season still long, Ale isn't having good days and is passing through tough times, once he gets off it, there will be no stopping him. He knows how to deal with all this pressure.

Forza Ale

The fact Del Piero's days with the national team aren't over only shows you what trouble Italy are in. Del Piero has had a grand career and did what he was asked to do in 2006, but surely Italy can't rely on him and Inzaghi forever.

didn't look that bad last year when they were lifting the World Cup...and the season is not even a month old, so u can expect them not to be at their best...

Italy really need a young World Class foward to pop up by 2008/2009.. DP & Inzaghi arent wat they use to be n iMO the rest of italy's current fowards arent really mediocre but they arent something special

Del Piero has a part to play for the national team, but make no mistake: Lippi was right in making him come off the bench. Del Piero as a starter for Italy is just plain weird. He's great as a substitute though and can still turn games around.

Italy have a problem, there just aren't young forwards who can match Del Piero, Totti or Inzaghi. Don't forget Di Natale's 30 as well...

yeah he was that bad in the italy game and very average for juve. I dont know what is it but he needs to lift himself up and am sure he has the personality for that.

His time in the azzuri could be over, although i think he will get back to the fold only because of the lack of overall quality that donadoni is putting his faith in. The likes of Di natale and qualiarliga won't give you that extra something that alex brings in

i think there is still a issue with Del Piero's overall fitness he doesnt look sharp enough.
I agree, n i think the reason for this is that he expects 2 much from himself.. judging from his recent media comments he still thinks hes 25 n in mint condition.. this has its positives (e.g he is still motivated) but i dont think he knows that his body needs sum rest more than it did be4

Del Piero is still useful to Italy, since he's stil motivated to help Italy and make ammence for his euro2000 misses(which i do not think it's his fault, not at all..) but then he gotta realise that he is not the young dp anymore and he gotta know his own limit and strength. Sad to see DP not even making the bench for Italy(after he just won golden foot?) i think DP can stil make a great sub like he did for wc2006.as for Juve, he can still contribute a lot! Dp just dun have enuf luck w the Nt. but its ok, at least he has won the wc , a lot of legends can;t even achieve that. This italy squad can;t go far with current squad's depth+quality. We dont have a decent young striker who can guarantee goals, and we dun have a good dc to partner up with Cannavaro(Materazzi is OK, provided he;s fit) and the main problem lies with Donadoni. This is the difference between the champion coach(Lippi) and the average coach(Don) He hasn;t impress me at all. Battle against scotland will be the decisive one, it's make or break for Don and the team. even Italy scraps through, I can;t see this team goes far in the tournament. Imagine this team goes against Germany again?(unthinkable!)
