Atleast crouch didn't play.

But again, I can't over the fact that Del Piero will probably score every freekick opportunity in this world cup. He had such a good setpieces year and he'll be very focused and determined. He's not getting the minutes and it's just not fair. :disagree:

You should thank Lippi for even including an all season substitute in his squad, and be happy for every minute that he gets to play. Del Piero is not the player he used to be (you heard it before, but it's still true) and with the attacking force of today's Italian NT with several top class strikers, saying Del Piero should be playing ahead of the other forwards is only to be considered a joke, and can only be coming from a biased Del Piero fanatic such as yourself. You need to wake up.

Del Piero might have played more as a sub this season, but his scoring rate was phenomenal. The only player in the squad who scored better this season was Toni. So you're just proving you know nothing about this season and about football, because Del Piero has been one of Italy's finest and in great shape all season, and deserves to play a lot in the NT. Your stupid cliches of not one he used to be etc are of no interest.

Of course he isn't the player he used to be, but he is Del Piero. As mnementh said, you don't know anything about football because if you look at the statistics this season, according to minutes played/goals, Del Piero is much better than Gilardino. Maybe we are dp fanatics and that can make us to be a little subjective but what you are saying is pure crap and you are being only biased person with no footbal knowledge. The one who needs to wake up here is you, wake up and look how played dp this season and then make your argument.

Totti out, Del Piero in! Monday 26 June, 2006
Marcello Lippi has sprung a major surprise by replacing Francesco Totti with Alessandro Del Piero in the side for today’s match against Australia.

The Roman, despite his mediocre form, was set to still start in the last 16 clash but the Coach has thought otherwise.

Instead, Del Piero will start in an attacking wide left position and will provide support for an attacking duo of Alberto Gilardino and Luca Toni.

The latter comes into the side after being dropped from the starting line-up which faced the Czech Republic, while Mauro Camoranesi is axed to the bench.

Italy (confirmed): Buffon; Zambrotta, Cannavaro, Materazzi, Grosso; Perrotta, Gattuso, Pirlo, Del Piero; Gilardino, Toni.

Sums your post up, to be honest. I am in no way biased towards Del Piero. Because I deliver a piece of healthy criticism towards his holyness does not mean I am biased. It can't be all petting him on his back and "well, he looked hungry. His running looked promising" after a bad game. I am a realist, that's all.
And your kind discussing football knowledge is hardly worth commenting, knowing that you people watch the games via lagged out streams and eurosport.com commentary, and base your opinions on what's being said on this forum.
Anyway, now it seems he'll get to play as a trequartista ahead of Totti, so we can all be happy.

If you say Del Piero will be playing as a trequartista that just about sums up what you know abot Del Piero ;).

Im begining to think that DP will not have his moment in this WC

perfect? He only touched the ball about 3 times! One good cross that was about it! Not hating on him by any means but really.. "perfect" is just slightly over the top :D

3 assists, what were you watching, it obviously wasn't the same game as me!
He did give two crosses that should have been goals though. I think DP had a good performance and should start the next game alongside Totti. I'm just not sure if it's still football I'm watching.

I was glad Totti scored :D. That has never happened to me before.
