He's not saying Del Piero is better, I think he wants to see Del Piero - Toni in the lineup actually :agree:

Gigi Buffon :

“Australia weren’t a simple task and Alessandro Del Piero was in a wide role, but he ran a lot and really helped out working for the team.”

God I love buffon so much, the guy is so awesome :smoke:  can't imagine Italy without Buffon.

If you say Del Piero will be playing as a trequartista that just about sums up what you know abot Del Piero ;).
Well congratulations for finding a flaw in my post to deliver a cheap oneliner. And second excuse my Italian, it still doesn't reach beyond "forza". What I mean's he would play somewhat behind the strikers. But it turned out he was hardly playing at all.

Italia: `Del Piero `Avrei segnato anche io`
DATASPORT

Perche` no` :) (seems we're not the only ones thinking of totti - Del Piero next match together...)

Toni Gila and Del Piero all got low grades at the sites I checked... (4.5-6) , so I don't know what the chance for Totti-Del Piero. If not, maybe from the bench like totti today ;) (only better!) wel also don't know how fit Totti is to start in the first place, according to Lippi's statements today.

whats your problem if i may ask. when dp couldnt score against usa, had two chanses, saved by gk he was still good. now when toni was lively and was just unlucky to score, his already bad and dp was much better.

???

I think he said Del Piero contributed more than Gila and Toni.
This doesn't mean Toni performance was bad. He just couldn't score..
Del Piero had 3 good passes that could become goals and they missed that chances.
As a supporting striker, Ale did a good job, although this is not his favorite position.

An ok match for Ale.Gila can't score(and it doesn't surprise me),but Toni seems has problems in finishing which is strange for me.he missed 2 easy chances yesterday but I still believe that he'll find his best form.
I wanna see Ale-Toni upfront and Totti behind 'em.

The problem with Toni is that he is the player who has played most among the forwards. Not only he played a lot during the season but he was the main player in the team; I think he's exhausted and it is appearing now.

Every forward bar Totti got a 5 in la gazzetta. To me that seems a bit harsh as both Del Piero and Toni did create chances. Furthermore what are they do when they're one man down and Lippi is reluctant to attack? They can basically only defend, can't they?

Del Piero has to score in the WC and Italy has to go far.

Something I notice :

I look at Raul and I say, damn, these players had similar history. Both great for their clubs for many years (though Del Piero much better :p ), both had disappointed 1998 and 2000 competitons for whatever reasons. Both seemed to be on a great run and form in 2002 but were unlucky not to go further. Both failed to advance in 2004. Now both wanted to make a great last tournament, last chance. Raul managed to score but went home. I hope Del Piero proves he can go with Italy to the end !
